    radio speaker placement

I am going to put modern radio in my 1958 and wondering where and what kind of speakers you used?

I could not find a good spot for my speakers other than the console without cutting panels. So I put a couple of small ones in boxes under the front seats.

This is something Im hoping to address in our build. I dont want to cut up any panel either. So I'll be looking for an amp to boot mount and an Ipod lead to plug in. As for speakers, little ones and lots of em.Two in the console position, thinking one where the map light would go, and then maybe some under the seats. But I have electric driver seat so might get cramped. We are no where near fitting yet, so hopefully others will tell of their speaker positioning. Stu

I was hoping to do something similar to what was done below. Looks like a custom job because I can’t find those kick panel enclosures for sale anywhere. The one thing I’d do is wrap it in vinyl to match the interior.

I'm in agreement with Marcelo. Kick panel speakers, some in back somewhere, have not determined where and a sub in trunk, between back of seat and spare tire! "Man the old bird bea thumping" boom, boom, boom

I don't think I'm going to do speakers in the rear package tray. It's too visible from the rear window. I'll probably replace the single speaker in the center console with one of those duel speakers.

I've been toying with a few ideas for the trunk (if I decide I need more bass) I was thinking of constructing a subwoofer enclosure shaped like the spare tire. That way, with the spare tire cover on, it would be completely hidden.

I like to put in a docking station for my iPod in the ashtray and use the excisting speaker place. Take off the iPod and flip the lid, and it looks original again. Apart from that, my 390 is giving me the music I want

That sounds like a good option but what kind of sound are under-seat enclosures designed for. Are they full range or more for bass? I don’t need anything crazy, I just want full sound like you would have in a newer car.

                      I haven't purchased them yet.

Call MAC's, I bet they are 6x9 speakers if I had to guess...

I still have an original radio to send off to get the new modern sterio "guts" installed with AC jacks.

Alexander put his small speakers all around under the headliner when he replaced it. Different.

It sure was easier when this was the extent of our "audio upgrades"

And we were crusni' with the AM radio blaring out of our package shelf rear speaker.

I cannot think of a situation where I would need windshield washers. I won't be going for a spin the day after the salt trucks have done their job after the snowstorm if you know what I mean. So, I put my left tweeter where the washer control used to be, with the right tweeter in the opposite panel of course. I will be putting the 4" mid/bass speakers in the kick panels, but I will be making new kick panels out of fiberglass, using the original as an outline and making the center stick out so there is clearance for the depth of the speaker. I'll post photos as this job progresses. I also have a sub in place of the spare tire. The amp is mounted on the trunk sidewall.
