The factory put tape over them on the hardtops. Over time it usually tears or comes off completely. Duct tape will work just as well as what the factory used. I suggest you vacuum out that area first before you cover it up. If there's surface rust inside the holes spray a rust inhibitor.

As already stated, I would contact all of the parts suppliers and see if you can get them to mail you a free catalogue. That could be a big help for you.
I would also check to make sure that they will ship to Malta and what the Shipping costs would be. That could make a big difference in the cost to you.

Carl Heller also carries new parts along with used parts. You can contact him about availability and shipping. He may wind up being cheaper than the parts houses.

          Clock

The clock will be adressed later.
I located the gage in the trunk (I happened to fell on Wheeler Dealers this morning on TV where they worked on same on a TBird 57!)
Again nothing wrong but a bad connection. I need to change it as it is broken and do not positively contact.
In the meantime I noticed 2 squares holes on both sides of trunk's floor. About 2"x4". Do we have plugs for that?
Also the trunk is painted same color as the car's body. I treated some rusty dots. What was the original finish on the trunk's floor
          What do you recommend?

I will work later on the doors.
Thank you all guys for your help so far.
If your clock is not working and you also want to try and fix that, there is something called a clock spring inside. This is a setup that has a set of contact points attached to a spring that winds up the clock mechanism. These points look very much like the points in your distributor. Often these points get corroded and don't make contact. By carefully cleaning the points, you can often get the clock working again.

Eric, if you are thinking of working on your clock, go to the Technical Resource Library (TRL) and do a Ctrl F (for Find). Type in Clock and it should take you right to all the information on how to troubleshoot and repair the clock. It is all right there for you. The TRL is full of information on how to troubleshoot and repair your Tbird...

Eric... The Technical Resource Library is the very first listing in the Thunderbird Technical Discussion section of this Forum. Right above the 1955-1957 Little Bird Forum. Not only that, if you will look at any post that I or John Pizzi ~ jopizz makes, it is also part of our signature element. This link is the right there in our signature... The last element of our signature element.

                Engine?

                Hello
I am preparing the list of parts to order.
To start with, how can I tell if the engine is well a 352 as it is supposed to be and has not been changed over the years?
How can I ID it and where will I found a S/N to see if it is matching?

The only sure way to tell if you have a 352 and not a 390 is to measure the cylinder depth. Here is how Dave Dare recommends doing it.

Put your timing marks on TDC. Remove #1 & #4 spark plugs. (When #1 is up, #4 is down).
Using a welding rod or a dowel, put the rod down #1 spark plug hole and mark it at the valve cover flange. Then, stick it down #4 spark plug hole and mark it again, using the valve cover flange.

Pull the dowel out and measure between your marks. Because there is a 1/2" difference between a 352 and a 390, if the distance between your marks is more than 3-1/2", it couldn't possibly be a 352. If the difference is 3.75" it IS a 390/427 crank.

Ford did not put serial numbers on engines so there's no way to tell if it's been replaced.

                    Thank you John
Since the parts I need are just Exhaust manifold gaskets and Oil pan gaskets, it should not make a difference between 350 Vs 390.
My concern is with a totally different engine like a 351 or a 289 ...
Who knows what might have happened in the last 50 years.

To put one of those engines in requires major alterations. If you post a picture we will be able to tell what you have.

                        Eric's 1960 T-Bird

Eric, also, Ford owners do not play the "numbers matching" game that other classic car collectors do. It is not unusual for Squarebirds to have parts on them that were used in the Babybird. Bulletbirds and Flairbirds to have parts on them that were also used on the Squarebird, for example. If a part was a common part that could be used on more than one model of Tbirds they used it.

I just saw John's post regarding posting pix of your engine. When you were Welcomed to the Forum, I posted a Welcome to you in the New Members Welcoming Forum. It explains to you how to post pix. Here is that link to that Welcome!

I can't post pictures here. There is not well known alternative engines in those cars?
According to VIN number, (Y code) engine should be Thunderbird 352 Special V-8 Engine (300 Horsepower) 4-Barrel Holley Carburetor/Dual Exhaust System
Same year the car came with a 430. Can't it be that?

Eric, a 352 has an expansion tank on it between the air cleaner and the fan that has the ends of it pointing to the fender panels. The 430 engine has that expansion tank towards the passenger side of the air cleaner with the ends it pointing towards the radiator and the other end towards the firewall. So that is an easy way of tell the difference between the two of them. There are other ways also, and if you send pix to John, he has offered to post them for you.. You might look at the Thread towards the top of this Forum regarding Paid Membership advantages. There are a number of them that Paid Members have that un-Paid members do not have. Income from Paid Memberships helps keep this Forum going, as they help pay the server bills. Here is the link to that Thread,

                              http://www.squarebirds.org/vbulletin...splay.php?f=22

If you know your VIN # and have the Data Plate information, I can tell you what your Tbird left the factory looking like back in 1960 and also the actual date it was made. I happen to have the 1960 Production figures for that year only. The 5th digit of your VIN # tells you what it left the factory with.. A Y=352 and a J=430. What it has in it now still needs to be determined and John gave you very good information as to how to do that. Yes, it could have a 430MEL in it, and you and we will know as soon as you tell us which way the black expansion tank is pointed....
