    Suprise suprise!

While making a delivery in Boca Raton this morning, I pulled into the parking lot and couldn't believe what I saw. There in the corner sat a raven black 1959 Thunderbird.

Of course, I checked her out.

She has power windows, an aftermarket A/C setup, and full gauges under the dash. Pretty good resto job, but there were some bad spots on the rockers and fender doglegs.

All in all tho, the car looked great!

The last time I saw a 59 on the road was in 1985 here in VA. It was at a used car lot (of course I wanted it but had no money) A few weeks later I saw an older woman driving it in Richmond and never saw it again. It too was black with a black /white interior. The last time I saw a 58 was the summer of 78 . It pulled right up next to me and my father at a parts store.......Black with a red/white interior. The last 60 I saw was around 1990 going the opposite way as I traveled. It was Baby blue........and kinda rough looking. Ive seen a few in my area at car shows and auctions.......and at an annual show this year there were none. There were several 55-57,s and a few Bullet birds. RARE CARS these Squarebirds.

I haven't seen a Squarebird on the road in prolly 25 years. Matter of fact, I haven't seen one at a car show in quite a number of years either!

Baby Birds, Bullet Birds ... yes. Squarebirds? Nada.

Seeing this one in the parking lot was quite a trip.

I am surprised! Here in the Netherlands I rarely see a squarebird on a car show, however I do see them. You do not see them in Florida?
There must be a lot more 58-60 cars where you live than overhere.

In May 2005 we will have a big Thunderbird meeting in Holland, due to the T-bird's 50th anniversary. Then I hope a lot of squarebirds will show up. :9

            Hans,

I am as suprised as you are. While Florida is indeed full of old cars, Squarebirds are still a rare sight here. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places?

There is a weekly "antique car" meeting on Saturdays in Kissimmee (near Disney World), open to any classic automobile that shows up. It's in an area called "Old Town." (http://www.old-town.com/) This area was designed (and DEF looks the part) to resemble a 50's era "downtown area" (http://www.old-town.com/storemap.htm), complete with shops, restaurants, etc. They even hold a "cruise-in" near the end of the evening where the cars drive up and down the streets. (http://www.old-town.com/carshows.htm)

I've been there a few times and have only seen one Squarebird. :-(

I hope you take lots of pictures and share them with us! ;-)
