    Baby Driving Squarebird

Jim Slater sent this photograph. It was taken around 1964-65 in Gulfport, Missippiof with his oldest daughter at the wheel of his 1960 Thunderbird Convertible. She was about 1 year old at the time.

Does anyone else have any old pictures of Squarebirds?

    Alexander,

I just mailed you a 1959 Thunderbird photographed in 1959 in Vienna, Austria.
Maybe you can place the picture on this forum?

Thanks Hans for sending in this great picture of a Squarebird in Europe in the 1950's.

Randall (BCDSGT06) sent me some great pictures of the first car he bought in August 1963 - a 1958 Thunderbird Hardtop. And the last car he has bought in 2003, a 1960 Thunderbird Hardtop.

            Sandy,

What kind of wheel covers are on that 1958?

                Are you sure?

Is it not one of these with a center bullet added?

                  No, because http://www.hubcaps.org/hubcaps/chrysler/Lan57-58.jpg
has a smooth section between each large bar, while pictured 'Bird has smaller "vanes" (or ribs) between each larger bar. It's the Olds, but, yes, I think a bullet of sorts ADDED to the center (much smaller) bullet. Also, the grille is missing something, {yes} ?? Horizontal bar ??

You might be right, it might be an aftermarket wheel cover made to look like a Dodge Lancer wheel cover of 1957-1958. However, all the 50's Olds 88 wheel covers I have seen have three spokes, not four.

                      I'd guess this one:

But, I really didn't notice that it does have 4. Dodge Lancer might be it. Lets see those~
x( getting diZZZy looking at those Olds ones...

Anyone interested in in learning about unique cars can visit the ASC McLaren message board at http://www.ascmclarencoupe.com/phpBB/ . Sandy helps run that board. ASC McLarens are not just modified Mustangs.

I really don't think very many people who are into Squarebirds,
would also be into ascMcLarens. Most often talked about car among ascMcLaren owners (other than ascMcLarens) are other unique FACTORY sponcered Mustangs & Capris. Since most Saleen owners inheitently feel threatened by us (no reason for that) ~ they don't like us, so the feeling is mutual. I'd say Shelby Mustangs are the most frequently admired by the ascMcLaren group, with other factory specials based upon Capris & Mustangs a close 2nd.
Our ages tend to be older, as well. Most Saleen owners are losing interest by the time their last acne pimple fades away.

I was eighteen when I bought the wheel covers from an auto supply store. All this time I thought they were Dodge Lancer, but Sandy may be right that they were Olds. They had vanes like the 60 Bird but were painted white instead of black. The spinner did not stand out,but layed flat or flush to the hubcap.
Thanks for the comment on the 60. Out of all the cars I have owned, the 58 is the most rememberd,so I bought the 60 as a time machine. It works!ha.
