I have seven seats for my 1966 Thunderbird, I am not sure which seat is the correct seat for my car. I know that 1964-66 Thunderbirds basic seat is the same it is just the covers that are different. So my question is: how can I tell the 1966 seats from the others. I have two seats with a Thunderbird in the cover and think maybe these are the 1966 seats.

Hi Joe,
I am going to post some pix of seats and seat covers from original '66 Tbirds. According to the owners, these pictures of of Tbirds that have not been modified, and are all original Tbirds. Perhaps this will help you decide. There were NO Tbird emblems molded into '66 Tbird seats that I am aware of. Only the one that came down between the seats from the package try behind the seats that held the speakers. Unless there were on some '66 models that I do not have pictures of. If any of you have known original '66 Tbirds that DO have Tbird emblems in the seats, please let us know and also what model it is. I do know that some '64 & '65 Tbirds have front seats with Tbirds molded into them, and some do not. The picture of gray seats with a Tbird in the backs of the front seat is from an original 1965. It must depend on whether it was a regular Hardtop, or if it was a Town Landau. Here is a website that might help you also.
I would also suggest checking the '66 Shop Manual. If you do not have one, you can get one from any of the major Tbird parts houses listed in the Advertising Forum below. Here are some pix that might help you.

The '66 seats did not have the emblem in any models. They also have the square block design unlike the '64-5 that had the ribs all the way down. The only 64-5 front seat that didn't have the emblem was the reclining passenger seat with the headrest.John Pizzi - Squarebirds Administrator

Thanks, John, for those comments. Yes, looking at the '66 pix you can see the square blocked effect under the pleats in all the '66 pix. In the last one, the gray one, you can see the pleats go all the way down. Joe, if you have two front seats with Tbirds in them, and they have the squared blocked effect where the blocks meet the seat you sit on with pleating above it, then I would say those are your '66 front seats. But if they have pleating all the way down to the bottom seat, they are '64-'65 seats. They other thing to look at is that center pleating in the '64-'65 seats is carried through into the seat you sit on. The '66 has matching squared blocks in the seat to match those in the backrest. I hope this helps and let us know what you came up with.Last edited by YellowRose; July 22, 2011, 02:15 PM.

thanks for the help on those seats. I want to discard the bad seats but want to keep the 1966 seats for reference. I know that out of seven seats I can get two really good and unrusted steel frames for the seat.Comment
