The starter I found on my 63 looks nothing like what the original
starter should look like. Are there other starters that are compatible? The flywheel is 15.5 inches in diameter and has 153 teeth on the ring gear.

Here's what it should look like. 153 teeth on the flywheel is correct for '63.

My car had the same long snout starter but I replaced it with a short starter from a later model. Only thing different is I removed the rubber mount as its not needed.

I just went through this with my '64. Apparently Ford made a change in the flywheel in 65 on the 390s, but made the change earlier on the 427. As a result, some catalogs are in error.
