    Water pump help

With out any warning my water pump has decided to call it quits. Nice puddle this morning, thought it might be the overflow tube but that was dry, looks wet around and at the bottom of the pump. Any suggestions on what pump is the best to get? CarQuest has one in stock, but not sure about the quality. Thanks!

Bought mine from NAPA 10 years ago. Every now and then it leaks at the shaft seal when the car has been sitting (like over the winter) but stops after it is run for a few minutes. Only leaks a small amount (you can wipe it up with 2 paper towels) - never got around to replacing it.

    NAPA for a 352 Item#: WP 58201Price: $47.49 Core: $4.40.

Bet they are all reman'ed by the same company.

If yours is the original pump or a Ford replacement and you are not interested in sending it off to have it rebuilt - hang on to it rather than getting the $5 on the core. You may want it in the future if you want to have the correct casting numbers on your car. Probably would have to go to Hemmings to find a rebuilder - don't see a kit listed after a quick check of 3 sites.

        Water pump repair

        Hi
Does anyone have a source of repair kits for a 352 water pump,if indeed they exist at all.None of the major suppliers appear to list anything and a search of other sources has drawn a blank.I appreciate that a rebuilt item is maybe a better bet but I would like to rebuild my original pump if possible, especially when the cost of shipping is taken into account.
        Best wishes
        Peter

I looked in Services in Hemmings and found about 15 listings for shops that rebuild water pumps. If you think about it, people with cars older than ours have no option but to get theirs rebuilt.

I bought one from the local auto parts store 5 years ago and no problems. You can buy additives for the cooling system that keep the packing in shape.

I doubt that it matters where you buy the rebuilt pump - the process is not complicated. If it were me, I'd buy the rebuilt pump from wherever you can get the best price and then get you old pump rebuilt. You never know when you will need it. There has to be a number of rebuilders near you.The way most of us drive our TBirds is hard on water pumps - they aren't driven enough.

              430 Water Pump

There were two versions of the 430 Water Pump, the one for the A/C cars has a bigger shaft and will not fit the pulley of cars that had the non/AC pumps. They carried different casting numbers which are listed in the Ford Parts Text 5751568 for non A/C and 5751540 with A/C.
My experience with trying to get rebuilt pumps at the 'big box' stores for the older pumps is that they have none in stock but will rebuild yours. I have a local firm that has been doing mine for about 5 years and at times I'm able to buy enough components to build kits.

Carl, I have never taken one apart. Beside the packing, what is in there to wear and need replacement?? Is there a bearing?

                  water pump help

The 352 and 430 water pumps contain a cartridge/shaft arrangement whereby the bearings and seals are encased in a housing surrounding the shaft. The impeller is attached to one end of the shaft and the nose piece to mount the pulley on the other. As you might imagine there are different dimension cartridges and different shafts. On some of the older applications, modifications must be made to the pump housing or the cartridge/shaft to accommodate the readily available parts. A quality rebuilder will replace the impeller, the back plate, cartridge/shaft, and the nose piece with new.
