    1959 T-Bird Build

I thought I would post some pictures of a 1959 T-Bird that I am building. My hope is that I can share some of my experience to others that are building a car.
The first pictures are what it looked like before I started on it. I was skeptical of it from the beginning, but I like a challenge and couldn’t wait to tear into it. I think the paint and body repair were about 15- 20 yrs old.

This is what was hiding under the paint. The right rear ¼ is a fiberglass skin pop riveted on and covered in thick bondo. Both sides of the frame behind the wheel were covered in fiberglass and undercoated to hide the repair. Pretty shoddy work even in the time frame it was done in.

I got to get to work. I'll post so more later in the week.

Jeez..... it looks like a pretty nice car you are starting with.

Just needs a re-paint and some new sheet metal?

        Hey Keith,
She still is a good looking old Bird. Take your time and fix her back right! Keep us posted.

it's time to get out the the cut off wheels and the welder. I'm sure we will all follow with interest. Just keep your eye on the prize, and have at it. Mike

So you are doing the bodywork yourself?

If I had the ability to deal with bodywork, I would sure be ahead of the game on my cars.

Yes sir, that is correct. This is my full time hobby on nights and weekends.

Work in a factory by day. Got off night shift a few years ago.

Keith it sounds and looks like, you have things well under control in your restoration. As mentioned earlier, do it right as I am sure you will and keep posting pictures of your work in progress. Are you maintaining the same colour and is that the original exterior colour as the pixs are a bit off??

i believe the original color was light hickory. The repaints appear to be a shade on the pink side.

The color has not been decided yet.

                          1959 T-Bird Build

Keith, the Data Plate on the inside drivers door will tell you what paint color your Tbird left the factory with. The color she is now is a very pretty color, I think..

Here is the data plate info.

                            Motor 352 Auto Factory Air

Odometer reads 63099. I don't know if that is true. I didn't feel like taking a chance driving it from Kansas City to my house so we trailered it.

I did drive it a few times. I believe the motor ,trans and a/c are going to be changed out for a 351 W, AOD and a Vintage air combo unit.

Paint Code F is Buff or Hickory Tan. 5Y for the interior was a tan and white interior. 26 March is the date she was scheduled to be "born". 4 is a COM and 1 is a 3:10 Axle. Have you registered her with the Tbird Registry yet? www.tbirdregistry.com
