I've searched a powerful Ford 3G alternator at Summit, this seems to be a way to go. I'll double check it with C.R.A.P.

Here is what Larry from C.R.A.P. says about mounting the 3G Ford alternators with their mount bracket:
"I think the 3G ( 3rd Generation) comes in two different cases so I'm not sure which one if either will work. The distance between the pivot bolt and the lockup bolt is 6 15/16".
That is an important piece of information. I will request an info from Tuff Stuff about their 3G alternator dimensions...Comment

Generator to Alternator conversion
I have found a company who markets a generator to alternator conversion bracket that uses the existing generator bracket. Here is a link to that.

In addition, here is a link to a company that markets 3G Small Case alternators that you might want to check out. It might save you some money.

That is the bracket that I am using. Although it is easy to install I have to constantly retension the belt as it seems to have quite a bit of twist to it. The weak point seems to be the long bolt. It is too thin to give adequate support considering the forces put on it.

Generator to Alternator conversion
John, thank you very much for that post. That is one to stay away from then, especially in Jiri's situation.

Also with that adapter you have to reuse the thin bracket that attaches to the water pump and connects to the bottom hole of the alternator. Mine didn't reach and I had to use a small piece of metal to connect it. That same bracket is sold by many different companies. I assume it's made overseas and costs pennies to produce. Although the C.R.A.P. setup is way overpriced in my opinion it's certainly a better alternative. I'm sure someone with some fabrication skills and the right tools could make something that would work for much less.

This is all good information and for someone who has those skills and equipment they can save themselves some money by modifying that bracket as you did. In Jiri's case, I think he is better off going with the CRAP bracket, which is in use by a number of Squarebird owners on this Forum with the 352 engine, and it works. It is a matter of determining what holes are drilled in the block and which version of the bracket to get. I agree with you regarding the pricing, but this is an easy and excellent working bracket to install, so I have been told.
