    standard transmission conversion

    anyone out there switched the c6 for a tremec am planning to take the tired 390 out of my 66 and replace it with a 428 coupled to a tremec tko500 seems like a fairly straightforward change with the usual unexpected problems to contend with I'd like to find and visit with anyone who has done this or similar with a flairbird.. any ideas??

    What comes to my mind is that you'll have to cut into the console and hump and you'll have a vestige of the column shift lever sticking out.

    According to a supplier's website they have applications available for FE and "early" Ford versions but don't appear to have a 66 T-Bird on the list although there is a 66 Mustang listed so the company ought to be able to provide you with specs for the 66 T-Bird:

      yes there is not much of a stub sticking out of the top of the tko tranny however the shifter fastens to the stub and there seem to be some options on how to handle the shifter design
