PS reservoir lid gasket glue?

Seemed the old gasket (original??) had some kind of glue
to keep it on the lid (mostly during assembly I'm guessing).

I'm down to my last leak on the steering, just on
the edge of lid, opposite side of bolt and wingnut.

Any recommendations on what glue to use?

Henry I had to clean my reservoir a couple of years ago and noticed the gasket wasn't secure. I used a thin layer of " Gorilla" glue which did the trick

Just a thought , make sure the level in reservoir is down below edge when cold ( 1/4" to 1/2 " ) to allow for heat expansion of fluid .

Black Permatex will work fine for securing the gasket to the lid. As mentioned make sure it's not overfilled.

Maybe I have the wrong "dipstick" on my cap, but it barely registers at the "cold" spot when hot and what seems like overfull.

It's at about 1/4 inch now, so will see how it does with new gasket.

Your pump or at least the cap may have been changed at one time. To my knowledge all Squarebirds came with the pump that didn't have the dipstick. You had to remove the lid to check the level and refill. Later pumps came with the dipstick. I have had pumps with the dipstick and they seemed pretty accurate.
