Horn problems

Has anyone had problems with thier horn....it looks like there was some sort of "soft" insulator between the horn ring and the steering wheel ( I think that is where it was ) so that there would be no contact until you honk the horn. It is NOT the second nylon ring, but a "first" one that was soft and dissinagrated, so that my horn always pulled power running my batt down. Is there one of these made ? Is there a kit anywhere that you can buy to replace all of the pieces inside the steering column related to the horn ?

I think what you are talking about is a cork gasket that is known for wearing out. I don't know if anyone has a template but it shouldn't be hard to replace/remake if you can figure out the size. I've got the same problem with mine, the horn blows when ever it wants to. I've got too many things going on right now to tear the column apart but hope to before spring really hits.
Don't know if that's any help or not.

I couldn't find that listed. But if you take the horn ring to a small hardware store, like a "True-Value", they should have it. You might want to print the photo of the clip from that tech article and take it with you too.

You have been a big help. Does it matter if you replace the C ring with a metal one, since the original was alum ?

No, you can use whatever metal C-Clip that you can find that fits.
