Speedo Cable oil leak

I ordered a new O-Ring for the speedo cable as I have oil leak, is there any trick to replacing this o-ring, do I have to take the cable loose from the speedometer at the dash.

You should be able to replace the o-ring on the gear at the transmission and be good. The o-ring is available from Concours Parts for $2.25 or you should be able to match it your local hardware store. The only reason you would have oil at the speedo is that the cables acts as an auger and moves the oil up from the trans.
