Anyone know what amp the relays are that work the top on a 65 Convertible I was looking the original type but at 47.95 each Im thinking of using 4 post bosh type relays I can get those in a 40 amp or 60

If you are talking about the relays in the trunk they are protected by 15 amp circuit breakers so they will trip long before your 40 or 60 amp relays.

Hi Jeff! Ahhhh, Camp Hill! Those were the days when I lived there. Played Baritone Horn in the Camp Hill HS band, caddied during the summer and weekends at the Country Club. Went fishing along the river... Drove my candy red Cushman motor scooter all over the place! Those were the days.....

It's pretty easy to take the original relays apart and clean the contacts. Usually that's all they need to be functional again.

Looking on a schematic I can see deck lock, deck unlock, upper panel retract, upper panel retract, are protected by 15 amp circuit breakers so I can use 30 amp relays there. But Deck close, Deck open, top up, top down are powered up from somewhere else, anyone know where these are getting power and what amp relays I should use.Comment

Those are protected by the main 60 amp breaker near the starter relay. They connect directly to the main power bus while the other four relays do not.

John is right, a black wire feeds the CB, then black continues on to the relay buss.
This is the 'Motor Power' (as I call it) that feeds all your relay contacts.
'Control Power' (which feeds relay coils) comes from the Top Switch Control Relay contacts. If this relay is energized, it takes power from the Aux Terminal Lighting Switch and feeds the manual Top UP or Top DN toggle sw.
If you are asking, what powers the solenoids for 'Deck Open CR' and Deck Close CR', look at wire numbers 413 and 414. They are fed from Deck (is) Unlocked RH LS. That power comes from the manual Top UP/DN toggle (explained in the last paragraph).
Your 15a CBs are only on individual motors for overcurrent protection.

I was wondering if there was an update in kit form for these relays. I found a site called thunderbird ranch maybe you've heard of it. They sell a relay kit to fix all of my woes at this time. Have any of you ever heard of this and how good is the fix?Comment

John Draxler is well known when it comes to Thunderbirds although he's been a little hard to get a hold of lately. I'm sure his relay system works very well if you don't mind the price and you don't care about cutting the plugs off of the existing wires.

I would use five-connector relays (1-N.O. & 1-N.C. contacts). That way you can electrically interlock opposing functions, in case something goes wrong (like a relay contact sticks closed). Conveniently, the sockets interlock which makes the layout much neater and easier to pull individual relays.
If you need more contacts, simply add more relays. At two bucks apiece, who cares how many it takes. I'm surprised no one has offered this modern relay scheme before now. Maybe it's due to the bullet connector plugs & receptacles. The bullet terminals are really good for carrying high current but the molded plug configurations are hard to find (or duplicate). - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution

I can use my 40 amp bosch relays for the motor functions, but the other functions will take a higher amp relay Bosch make a 75 amp but but i dont think its contacted right to work. From what I see in the schematics I need a relay with double contacts for power out.Comment

There are no relay contacts that pass 60 amps. The main CB is there in case a few motors are on at once.
Remember, 'locked rotor current' (or startup current) is 400% of 'full load amps' until the shaft starts to rotate, then 'Counter Electro-Motive Force' (CEMF) lowers motor current as speed increases. This holds true for all motors, AC and DC.
You can wire your top exactly like a 1960 Thunderbird, using single pole contacts, everywhere. The total relay count will be 12 in your trunk. For 1965, they simply used two double pole relays instead of four single pole relays for the (Roof Up & Roof Solenoid relays) and (Roof Down & Top Valve Solenoid relays). On a '60, these relay coil pairs are connected in parallel.
I'm not happy with a few things about the Ford diagrams, one is the names of the relays and names of the limit switches.
A relay causes action to happen usually by energizing a motor or valve solenoid. Ex: Tray Erect Relay causes a motor to run. So, this should be a command to, 'Erect Tray Control Relay'.
A limit switch indicates an position because of an action that has already happened. Ex: 'Top Up Limit Switch' should be, 'Top IS Up L.S.'. In other words, limit switches do not cause actions, they simply report that a position is reached so the next action can safely execute (like an end of travel L.S. shuts off a motor).
On Ford diagrams, Motor Starters are called 'relays' because the part numbers are the same. Motor starters should have an 'M' designation. - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution

Ok so I need more 40 amp relays. The main power wire coming from the front of the car is protected buy a 60 amp breaker. Looks like about an 8 ga wire. Is it OK to take that wire to a junction block split off to two 10 Ga wires to power up the relays. (The largest packard connect I could find was for a 10 Ga wire that pops into my relay bases) And can I install say a 30 circuit breaker to protect this circuit?Comment
