I really need to talk to someone who has removed the back seat cushion. Before I start this project I need some confirmation on this procedure. I own a Body and Interior service manual. It says remove the two front screws in front and the two back screws bebind the seat. Now will the scuff rail pull out or do I needto drop it down for it too clear the chrome knob on the driver side door. According to the service manual There a cotter pin that is connected to the inside of the chrome knob which has to be removed as like the opposite side next to the glove compartment too. THat side has a metal washer to it which has alittle extension on the inside of that piece also. Does the glove compartment have to be removed to take out that scuff plate also. PLease advise. Thank you. This is a 62tbird. Thank you Larry

You're talking about the front bucket seat. Take the seat out of the car before you attempt to disassemble it. The Trim & Assembly Manual has good illustrations and step-by-step instructions as to how the seat was put together - since you're disassembling it, start from the end of the written descriptions and work your way backwards. The seat side shield cannot be removed until the seat back and its retaining hardware have been removed as the shield.
If a hairpin clip was not used to hold the retainer/chrome knob in place, a roll pin may have been used (it's what was used in 1963). You have to push the upholstery aside with a wide putty knife or something similar in order to see where the pin is. If it's a roll pin, you'll need a roll pin punch to drive it out.Alan H.
