Jalopnick Spots a '61 on the Street

The car blog Jalopnik does a regular feature called 'Down on the Street' where they post photos pf old cars spotted parked on the street (not in a driveway) of Almeda CA.

At the beginning of the month they posted on this very tired 1961 Thunderbird still in use.

Sorta' makes you sad --- like seeing an old highschool cheerleader girlfriend that has "gone to pot".

No they do not, just smog inspections down to 1974ish

I have mixed feelings. Hey, it's still on the road and driven regularly, that's pretty cool. But I agree, it deserves to have been treated better over the years. Would take a lot of work to bring it back.

The guy that owns it also has a 1970 Chevy 4 door hardtop that they wrote up, also quite beat up. Better than the T'bird, though.

I've seen worse.

My second Bulletbird was a 61 similar to that. Thrashed out pretty bad interior wise from sitting out in the sun, dents all over, needing a complete restoration.

This one could be brought back from the brink but it looks like it will be a parts car in a few months.
