    hood latches

I have a `60 hardtop and the hood latches wont release ,the
cable works the latch but it seems like it wont move the
release far enough to release the hood. Is there any way
to adjust it?Its bothering me because I have to keep my hood
popped and it`s been raining every day. This car means alot to
me and it would suck if the rain got in the hood opening and
rusted something important. And yes I plan on buying a car cover
    but until then...drip drip

    RE: hood latches

I have the same problem and I am working on it.
    1. since my car paint is old I washed out the latches with brake cleaner and removed all the leafs and junk and hard grease.
    2. After it drys spray silicone or WD40 or PB Blaster etc on the works and along the cables to penetrate the cable and loose the rust and grease up.
    3. With someone holding in the knob loosen the cable stop screws and pul the wire tight with plyers and retight the screw this will take the slack out. Just like on a brake cable.
Most important is reducing the fiction and tension of the latch to make sure it releases the hooks.
The springs seem to do their job of returning and locking so I don't see them as the problem.. its get the draw distance of the cable longer. Hope this help. Also to help the hood against the latch lub up inside the hood hinge this helped me in ten minutes
