And you must admit, this is a very well behaved forum..!
I would like to think that from a financial point of view a new oil seal and bushing will see me right !

For less than $30 plus shipping for both parts I don't see any reason not to. I wish I had done it rather than spend an extra $400 to have a transmission shop do it.

I love the way you think, Jon.

Everything goes back to the Earth (including us). That means every system needs maintenance or bad components drag the rest of it down much faster.

Yesterday, Robin came home from work in a tizzy. Her 2010 Escape is a 4-cyl but now it's running on three. I quickly determined that #2 coil pack stopped working and promptly ordered a replacement from rockauto.com.

This car is her baby and she is willing to throw monkeys of money at it in exchange for instant gratification. Sorry, not my style. Hobble along 'til Friday, when your part arrives.

The point is, I'm sure coil packs, a safety item, are not designed to fail but they do and sometimes for no apparent reason. (So does everything else including seals.) That's why replacement parts are sold.

No, I'm not replacing the three good 'coil on plugs' because new ones don't work any better. - Dave
