      Yellow Rose's Paint Job

Thanks, Richard. All you have to do is to look at the yellow interior in Rose and you will see the color of the exterior paint. If all goes well, it should match, or be pretty close to it. Match is what I am shooting for. We think it will. They tell me it is difficult to match material interior colors to exterior paint colors.

          Yellow Rose's Paint Job

          Hi Tom,

It will be a couple of weeks before they have it all finished, the chrome back on, everything hooked up and tested. Yes, it will be an exciting day to be able to driver her again with her new paint job, new chrome and the interior back together again.

            Yellow Rose's Paint Job

This is a day that I have been waiting for, for a long time! Today, I got to see the paint job on the inside of the hood and the trunk lid. The color is what I call "Tweety Bird Yellow", but officially is called Chrome Yellow.. Here are a few pix of what she is gonna look like! If you look closely, you will be able to see the Casino Cream color still on the outside of the trunk lid.

              now that is yellow

I painted a 35 ford sedan close to that for my brother and that car always stood out. Just curious why didnt they take the latch hardware off the hood so the paint would be under it? From my limited experience when I dont that is where the first peels show up.

Between the new chrome and the yellow, there aren't going to be dark enough sunglasses to look at Rose in the sunshine..

                        Yellow Rose's Paint Job

Thanks, All! Yup, it is gonna look like a yellow fire engine coming at ya! That might be a good idea, come to think of it! Maybe they will mistake me for one and get the heck out of the way! Yup, Cathie, I am probably going to have to hand out really dark sunglasses to the judges when they step up to it to judge it! Wait until you see the complete paint job! I think they are going to shoot the door panels and trunk next. Then the main body. The last section to be done will be the engine well. He has told me that it is going to be very difficult to do with the engine in, and keep from getting yellow paint on black. I have faith they will be able to pull it off. I am not about to have the engine pulled if I can help it.

I asked him why they did not take the latch hardware off and he gave me a long answer on how they went about sanding and processing those latches before they painted them. The short answer was that I am not going to have any problems with that paint peeling around the latch bases. Unless someone unscrews the bolts and has to adjust the hood or trunk. But he said they already did that. They made those adjustments before they started the paint process.

I took one of the yellow pieces of the interior with me to check the yellow color compatibility between the paint and the material. It is pretty close! Not 100% perfect and I did not expect it would be. But it looks pretty good to me and I am satisfied.

hey ray, i'm interested to know what kind of prep work (if any) they did for the engine bay with the motor still in. my 60 is going to need a paint job but like you i don't want to pull the motor out, did that on my 64 and once is enough! i would appreciate it if you could let me know how they go about the engine bay paint so i can let my painter know that it can be done. it's current and original color (and future) is black so i wasn't too bothered by the idea of having older looking black paint in the engine bay but if new paint can make it in there without a motor pull i would be happy to try it.

                              Yellow Rose's Paint Job

Hey Pat, I will let you know what they are going to do. They are figuring this out themselves. They normally do not paint an entire car with the engine in. They know they are going to have to take out the battery, all the stuff on the fender wells off, and cover up and seal off as much as they possibly can. I do not think that they are not going to paint it yellow all the way to the bottom. Their plan is to paint the bottom section black, which is fine with me. He has said this is going to be the most difficult area to paint because of the engine and everything else being in place. I might end up with the prettiest yellow radiator you ever saw! I was half joking about that, but that could happen. If anyone has ever gone through a paint job with the engine in place, please let me know how you did it, what all you did to keep the engine, carb, et all, ending up being painted also... I could end up with the prettiest and brightest yellow engine you ever saw also!

                                Yellow Rose's Paint Job

I spent the last couple of hours painstakingly pin striping one of the spear points for the door. Having them and the chrome roof sections re-chromed, took off my black striping, of course. I could have taped over the ridges and painted the black areas in the valleys. But I decided to do what I did last time, as Alexander suggested in the past, many years ago. Pin stripe them. So I did! 1/8" black pin striping does the trick. I got one of the spear points done. I will work on the other over the weekend, and the C column pieces. I will say one thing for sure! Rose is going to have the best looking "bling" you could ever ask for when it all goes back on! With the yellow and white paint job, she should be one styling Gal! And maybe even a "Chick Magnet"! I already have several women who asking me to take them for a ride in her when she comes out of the shop. If I am smart, I will say, "Sure, if you will help me detail her! Dress of the day will be halter and short-shorts"! lol... Here are the latest paint pix.
