    Another Clock Post

I've been reading about non working clocks. My question is, does replacing the fuse ever solve the problem? And can somebody link me to the right type of fuse?

I don't think I'm going to mess with taking the clock apart and cleaning everything bc I'm afraid I'll break something or be unable to put it back together right.

Kirsten go to the main page and hit the "search " button on the top bar. Type in " Clock Repair " and you can read several posts on our beloved clocks.

if it doesn't work now, what have you got to lose ??

Read the article Dan mentioned, clean the points with a business card, lubricate as directed.

If the fuse is blown, you probably have big problems but I doubt it is. you can certainly check the fuse for continuity.

If you have a spare battery, rig up some jumpers and set it up on the workbench and see if you can get it working.

I just replaced the lights bulbs on my clock and the clock power wire had a connector. If this is factory, then you can check continuity easily.

Funny thing happened with my clock out of the cluster while hanging down and with one light bulb pulled out of the housing. It stopped working and the remaining light lit up when the lights weren't on!

            Thanks All,

So in summary, changing the fuse alone probably won't make the clock work? I felt like the fuse change was something I am capable of doing but the rest I will probably avoid right now.

Don't wanna screw anything up. I don't have a battery to hook things up to or any of that. I think I will leave it alone.

Sounds like your clock was grounding out through the lights when you had it removed. The clock spring points probably closed but didn't have enough current flow to reset them, hence the clock would stop.

Yeah Nyles, it was unexpected and it makes you think some wire is frayed.

Kirsten, you don't need a battery, just a free Harbor Freight multi meter and a website that'll show you how to check continuity. At least it would suggest either the fuse, a wire, or clock.

My clock was also not working when i got my Bird. Cleaning of the points did the trick.
Now i only need to get the radio working again.

Mine had a blown fuse - a small (short AGA type) 1Amp.. Just testing touching the wires together it worked but I suppose the fuse blew for a reason OR it was too small of amprage.. // What is the proper fuse for that? 1 or 3 I assume?

                      1 amp is correct.

On mine the clock worked with a cleaning using brake cleaner. Then it stopped and worked less and less to last a few seconds only in the end.
I brought it to 3 different clock and watch repair shops and they all said the points were too used to get a reliable clock so I had it sent to Auto Instruments to convert to quartz.
