It is loose and I have to hold the shifter up to start the car. I think of it as a security feature

No, however this project all of a sudden snowballed. I planned on Dynamat and already have new carpet. On my wife's 56' we did a couple years ago it really made a difference.

I had a couple of beers tonight and decided to start tearing apart the car to get the trim and front end off. Good times. Even the wife and dog came out to help!

I need to work on the door trim tomorrow along with the roof trim and then let the wife remove the trunk pieces and rear bumper.

Tim that's great that your wife is jumping in with the restoration as you are doing it together. Now just need to train your dog to bring some beers and cocktails for you and the wife

I have not done much over the last week however I did move it out today to prepare it to go to paint this coming weekend. It looks like a stock car with the front removed!

In a couple of months it will look just as good as the Bel Air.

Tim I would agree with your choice. My 60 is Moroccan Ivory with a Raven Black roof which gets lots of compliments

I am also going to replace the leather interior with the same leather so it should look like it did a few years after it left the assembly line!

No, Trim Code 84 Lt Beige leather. The original color on the back parts of the front seats looks great. It should be very classy when redone!

My wife the trunk monkey got inside to remove the bolts for the rear tray and seat back. What a pain. We had to remove it to get to the fourth nut for the roof trim. Another pain. Anyway, it is all stripped down now and I will trailer it to the painter in the morning.

Thank you all for the help and support so far. It should take about a month for the rust repair and paint so around mid-April I will be back on with an update. In the mean time I am building a 56' Chevrolet 210 wagon from the frame up and could use the catch up time.

Snowbird is at the painter now. I had to remove a few more pieces (that were a pain of course) but it is now in good hands. Six weeks will go by fast.

Hi Tim, I have been following your work on your Squarebird with interest, having gone through the same process with mine about 5 years ago or so. It is good that you have a helpmate in your wife and a team member in this. Unfortunately, I did not have that with mine, as my wife had passed away some years before I got my Tbird. She would have loved the exterior and interior color scheme and the long stemmed yellow roses on the seat side panels, the center console and the floor mats though... And Sylvester Pussycat and Tweety Bird riding shotgun... Those were my tribute to her... You might have said before, but what color are you going to have it painted? The same color it was?
