What engines were available in the 68 model Thunderbirds? Was it the 429 only or were there 428s available? As far as decoding the VIN, what number (letter?) denotes the engine and what number (letter) represents the different engines? Thank you for any help.

68 Thunderbird questions
Hi Wayne!
The following website is one of the best out there to get answers to Tbird questions. It covers them through 1977, I think it is. Click on 1968 on the left side. Then click on the various links on the side and you will find the answers you are looking for and a lot more about the '68 Tbird. Your question regarding engines is answered here.
The 390 code was a Z, but the engine was discontinued 1 Jan. '68. The 429 code was an N and it became the standard engine on the date above. According to the website there were no 428's available.
Here is another website you might want to bookmark. It has the VIN breakdown for the 1960-1980 Tbirds.
The information above should answer your questions. If not, fire away again! I don't own a '68, but I know where to find the information! If I don't one of the other great guys on here will, I am sure.
