Dakota Boy is right, fixing a leaky gas tank is, 'throwing good money after bad'. 15-gallons of gasoline is really heavy. I wouldn't chance fixing a seam leak. Your old tank probably has lots of rust inside (because it has nowhere to go).
The cheapest, easiest, and longest lasting fix, is to buy a new tank. They are just like the originals and they are dipped in tin. There is a company in Canada that makes them at a very reasonable cost. You can find them on eBay as well as most all the classic car parts houses. - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution
