Our Queensland Friends Need Our Prayers...

Our members and friends in the Queensland area Down Under are in need of our thoughts and prayers. Having probably just starting to recover from all that flooding, it looks like they are about to get hit with a Monster Cyclone that is going to possibly bring heavy damage and a lot more flooding. I just got this from Penelope a longgg way from Queensland, out in Western Australia. This looks really bad!

The scary thing is, with all the previous flooding the foundations of trees and buildings alike would have been undermined and weakened. Now to be hit with a category 4 cyclone of MONSTER proportions....to be honest, its plain frightening to think of the coming devastation. I wouldnt be surprised if it turns out to be the worst cyclone ever to hit Oz.

My thoughts are with all Queenslanders and especially our members.

Update on the Queensland cyclone
Now rated as category 5 with winds in the eye up to 300 km/hr, this is as bad or worse than Katrina that hit the US
As of this morning it's about 500 kms of the coast travelling at 30-40 km/hr. Possibly a metre of rain that's over 3 feet in 24hrs.
I wish all well in this time of need

I got this 20 minutes ago (6:07 EST):

I'm in an expect non surge area they have evacuated 25,000 people already here from coastal areas .

And we're still 300 kms from the projected landing point .
Considering now the cyclone now a HUGE Cat 5 with winds of over 300KPH+ with a projected landing in Innisfail
The eye of intensity is 100 kms and a front of 400 kms
It now being seen as the worst already in living history without hitting yet.
Landing is going to be around 10 pm-12 pm EST tonight between Cairns and Innisfail that's about 190 kms from here in Townsville .

More at: http://www.townsvillebulletin.com.au/

These folks really need our hopes and prayers. I live in the Eastern US where we are supposedly having record snowfall, and I realize how trivial it is by comparison.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all and it is hoped that the carnage is not too great. In this time of need, we all pray that no lives are lost during this massive storm.

Bill ~ Penelope, just sent me a website that shows the size of this monster against the outline of the US and other parts of the world. Mind boggling!

It would appear that no lives were lost in the cyclone thanks in some part to the wonderful job that the local authorities did in evacuating people and warning of danger etc. This is however yet to be confirmed as some areas are still not able to be surveyed due to flooding etc. Massive property and agricultural damage has been sustained however.

In a twist, it appears that the population actually went up by three in the affected towns as three babies were born overnight in the evacuation centre and hospitals!

That is truly a miracle straight from God. Our prayers are certainly answered, with mercy and compassion.

One man died in the Detroit area, from an apparent heart attack. The 67 yr-old retired Wayne County Deputy helped push his daughter's car out of a snow bank, walked back in the house, sat in his chair, then collapsed and died. 9-1-1 Emergency Medics were there within a few minutes and worked on him for 1/2 hour with no success. He had no prior history of heart problems.

Update On Queensland & W.Australia Fires!

Bill - Penelope, just sent me an update on the aftermath of the Queensland cyclone destruction. He also told me about something that I had not heard yet, but I have not heard much of the news recently. Here is what he had to say.

"There is some major rebuilding for Queensland, let me assure you but only 1 life lost and that was from a guy running a generator in a closed room (dumb) due to loss of power. I don’t think it was as bad as Louisiana but many many towns were affected badly, some totally destroyed. They have rallied though, as is the Ozzie way, and many relief volunteers have already started the rebuild and $100M or so has been raised by public donations. I think we can hold our heads up and say that we will not be affected by this long term. To give you an idea, some business and motels that were partially destroyed are already open for business again. The old adage in Ozzie is jump in and help your mates, and it is prevalent in this case – same with the bush fires here, within an hour the evacuation center was full of donated goods for the victims and they had to rent somewhere to store a continuing flow of food, clothing, furniture..you name it. Kinda gives you a warm fuzzy feeling.

I don’t know if it has made it onto the news over there but 100 houses were affected by a bush fire here in the last 3 days, 70 of them totally destroyed. Aussies must have done something wrong of late….
My sons fiancee’s house was close to burning…about 150 meters away…scary stuff!"

Bill lives in Western Australia. I guess it makes you wonder! Extreme flooding on the Australian East Coast, followed by a monster cyclone. And now bush fires in Western Australia!
