OK I was on the main squarebird web site and thought I would take a look at the adds for the car insurance, I found that I do not qualify for any of them none of the adds were from the USA all from over by way of England.

Now don't get me wrong nothing against fellow Birders on other Continent's. this was just an observation!

I am in the process however of getting quotes, (and remember I never plug any one company) and I found that Hagerty has the best policy, thy quoited me 117.00 per year for my bird valued at $5500.00 and $12000.00 value at $120.00 per year. this is cheaper and better coverage then adding my Bird back on my policy with my other to cars.

It's good to have a place were people from all over the world can get together and share the knowledge of something they love.

George you are correct that's why this site is invaluable to all of us as we can start the thread and get posts from all over the world.Your premium sounds very reasonable and does it have a restriction on the annual mileage??

For comparison purposes, my policy is $310 Aussie, (say $200USD) for full cover as a daily driver for my 1960HT through Shannon's insurance who specialise in cover for classic, collectors & sports cars. It is agreed value insurance where I needed to provide a written valuation, which came in at $40,000 Aussie ($26000USD). If the car is damaged beyond repair (in their opinion) the "remains" are legally mine, without payment. A good idea that last bit!

I pay like $80 for one year full insurance, with a value of 150.000 Swedish Krona. Like $18000.00 But I need to keep it in a garage, can´t use it as "daily driver", and therefor must have another car registred. The purpose is to have it as " a hobby car". Of course I can take it to work a few times a year, but it should not be used "as the main car".

And I have a limited mileage clause, it's pretty generous and keeps the premium down.

Max of 2500 miles per year for mileage which is good considering it is mainly a Sunday driver at about 40 miles per weekend and holidays, and the car must be protected against theft and vandalism.

Vandalism there's something I live 1 block from the Local PD and 1 Block from the high school, you thank the cops could make it there be for the vandal's are done .

I had Hagerty on my olds, then I acquired my first TBird, when I went to insure it with them I learned a number of interesting things about the policy.....

A. I had been tossed from my home by the now ex wife and the lack of a garage invalidated the insurance policy.
B. If I used the car for other than driving to a car show, parking at a car show etc. the coverage was not valid. IE, if I drove it to the parts store, grocery, etc. no coverage in the parking lot. So the time I drove my olds to SF for the weekend, I technically had no insurance on the car while it sat in a parking garage in SF .

I am now with State Farm under a collector car policy deal they have, it was actually cheaper than Hagerty, with no limitations on use or storage, just on mileage, but I did lose the "free" towing coverage with Hagerty....

So warning, read the fine print on the policy that you have, it might not cover you when you think, if you actually use the car, and not as a garage queen, car show only machine....

ditto the State Farm coverage.

I've had all my classic vehicles covered with them and have no problems with claims or coverage.
I think I typically pay about $120 per year for $20,000 value.
I can drive my cars pretty much all I want to but they aren't insured as daily drivers.

The insurance also covers mishaps you might have in your home garage while working on the car and it slips out of park and.....

No, that is one reason I went with them. I didn't have a garage anymore..... but I will in a couple weeks

Here, we need to keep the cars "original" or **** close to that, to be able to insure it, as it have "to be historical interesting". There are a few "special inspectors" that you need to send in pics from all wiews and more in order to get it approved. Not only that, you must be member of a car club that have a deal with these insurance companies.
It sounds harder than it is actually. I payed for membership in the Swedish Squarebird club, and they have a nice guy who inspects the car, and from that, it was more or less sorted.
