Wolfgang, Sorry for hijacking your thread!
The motor that Yankee did looks really nice! What did they do to the motor? It looks like they may have added some performance enhancing parts to it.
I like that you painted the engine bay flat black. I love a flat or semi gloss black engine bay. It really highlights the motor and you certainly have a beautiful motor!

Hi Wolfgang,
Graeme from Australia here again ... I just got 2 new springs for my 62' today. Have not opened the box but I expect they will not be as pretty as your orange twisties!!
Can you post an image of the tool you used to install those springs, I know there are some sweet compressors made in Europe, maybe you have one?
Thanks a lot - graemeComment

yes these springs are tough and they made us some headaches, but with our modified tool we made it. Tomorrow I go down to the shop and try to make a picture for You. Do not gamble with these springs, once they are out of control they are dangerous!!!

what did we do on the engine...
I'm sorry I don't. Nick moved with his wife Tammy. He said they were going to move to Steamboat and he was going to only do the parts side of the business but I haven't heard from him so I don't know if he went ahead with his plans or if he decided at a later juncture to chuck it all and sold all his parts to another parts house.

What a ripper!!
Thanks for posting Wolfgang, those units look like they are meant for working on WW2 tanks - very heavy duty?? I have seen similar units that are for Mercedes but possibly not that strong?
I will post images of the unit I have, unfortunately it means you have to remove the control arm when changing springs which adds hours to the job!!

Did Yankee give you any estimates on what kind of power the motor is going to make? Is the transmission stock?

restoration goes on......
hallo,
Yankee motors job was not specially tuning, it was rebuilding with some useful mild tuning. The used forged?(not quiet sure is the right word) pistons and used the edelbrock performer plus kit which contains the manifold 2105 and the camshaft 2106 and the carburetor 1406.
We did not measure power, but I think it will give the engine a plus of about 50 hp in relation to the original engine.
In relation to the engine i knew, which was old with leaking carb and old sparkplugs, cables and so on, I expect on my sensitive left foot about a plus of 100 hp.
The transmission is stock rebuild.
But the power is not that important for me, its a cruiser. To go really fast I a have a different car in spare.
But I can tell You that today the engine had is first new start and it was a full success. It started at once with stable idle term, and wen you push the acc-pedal it speeds up at once, much more faster the it used to do.
Now we have bad weather conditions with snow but maybe in two weeks everything is better and I can make a first test-drive.
Until this there is a lot more to do.
See the attached picture from the wheel alignment.

I hope the alignment numbers on the display weren't the final adjustment.
Here are some spec's for your Thunderbird:
Caster: Minus 1/2 to Plus 1/2 degrees
Camber: Positive 1/2 to 1-1/2 degrees
Toe-In:1/8" to 5/32"
In my opinion, these are very liberal numbers. I like to see Caster in the plus side and Camber closer to Plus 1/2*. Toe-in is personal preference, depending on how you want your car to 'feel' on the type of roads you use the most.
Looks like your restoration is going very well. I'm glad your engine builder did a good job. Keep the pictures coming. Your car looks very clean.
Did you get the numbers from your cam tag? Please post them. Also, did your builder change your freeze plugs? I saw no mention of that. - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution

the screen shot was not what we adjusted. Thank You for the data input it was helpful!
Your comment about the freeze plugs made me kind of nervous and I asked back. They feel offended, no question of cause they always do. I think better check than forget something.
