AC cable

while I was working on the cabin heating system I noticed that the AC vent has a cable holding clamp on the back side of the vents. I would say some one has removed the original cable and taken it completely out. Does anyone have picture or know where that cable goes to on the other end. Also on the passenger side of my bird there is a bracket with a silver dollar size hole. This bracket is just above the kick panel. It seems like a place for a knob to control a vent but only the bracket is there, no knob. What might go there?
