    Quarter Window Wobble

My quarter glass is adjusted to the correct stops, but the glass wobbles side to side. That is, it moves toward the interior and away toward the 1/4 panel. Once the door is closed, all is solid. I have the Trim, Sealing and Installation manual, but they don't see this as an adjustment.

How do you remove the quarter trim panel to get to the glass? I speculate the bolts holding the glass to the regulator are loose?

    Quarter Window Wobble

Dean, if you look in the Technical Resource Library, you might find your answer to your question if you look at the section on working on those windows...

      Dean:
I wish I could say there is an easy answer, but when dealing with these quarter windows, nothing is simple.
I'll attach some photos which may help.
Here are some areas that could be causing the wobble:
      1. If the nylon bushings are worn, it will cause excessive clearance to the vertical track and could cause wobble.
      2. Same for the nylon sliding bushing.
      3. The black bracket that is noted, has 2 bolts holding it to the quarter window frame. It kind of keeps things tight and can be shimmed to adjust for tightness. There are usually shims between the frame and bracket.
      4. There is also a bracket that is screwed to the piece that holds the sliding nylon bushing and helps to steady the window. These are often left out and not reinstalled. If everything else with the window is tight, you can get away with out these brackets.
      5. The window rollers... If the rollers are worn out or have been changed out with the replacement nylon rollers, they can cause a lot of looseness and cause the window to move.
      6. Another thing I have seen, is the bottom roller track in the window frame, has a tendancy to open up. This is due to the bottom part of the frame bending causing a much larger slot for the rollers which causes excessive play.
This may be a lot more information than you were looking for, but when you get the 1/4 window panel, these are some of the things to look for.
As a side note, I was able to buy most of the nylon bushings as replacements.

Thanks Nyles. No wonder this issue wasn't addressed on my car before I took ownership. I'll explore the problem, but it sounds like I might have to wait for Winter so I can have this apart while waiting for parts.
