Clock -- How to take off face [late

I need to paint the hands on the clock.

When I remove it from the dash, is there a way to get the front plastic face plate off so that I can get to the hands? Also, how do you get the front adjusting knob off?

Front knob unscrews - it is a right hand screw.

You need to separate the metal halves of the clock to get at the face after you remove the knob.

Right hand screw -- meaning that it loosens to the right?

No, it loosens to the left.

The rule with those knobs is when you don't need them to come off, they unscrew when you try to turn back the clock. When you want them to come off, they are stuck.

Yeah. I got it off finally, but if you hadn't told me which way to turn it, I would have been trying the other way.

Problem was it wouldn't stay running.

Thought it was a bad ground -- not the problem. So, I lightly sprayed the mechanism with WD 40, and then air dried it using a can of computer keyboard compressed air.

I've had it connected it to a battery in the garage for 9 hrs, and it's been working perfectly so far.

                hi Bart

while you have it apart, if you are not happy with the plexiglass front (scratches) it's not a big deal to replace it. You can buy a small piece of plexiglass and then cut it to fit with a saber saw and drill. You have enough hidden border to hide any imperfections in your cutting. (same comments apply to speedo and gas gauge)

                  JohnG:

So far, the plexiglass faces on all of the instrumants look good. I haven't checked the speedo, and gas/temp gauge up close yet. But if I need to replace one, your tip will come in handy.

What's the best thing to use on the plastic to clean them? -- I don't want to fog them.

                  Thanks
