2 options for power steering pump replacement's

I guess I buggered up my pump got it all put in but have no pressure.

I was reading threw the steering section of the shop manual and noticed that there is suppose to be an alignment pin in side the pump I do not remember this pin beining there because I could spin the outer insert in the pump.

So I'm thanking to replace instead tearing it apart again,

does any one know the difference other then the mounting bolts in the pump, from a fount mount to a rear mount. Looking at pictures the only difference I see is the $100.00 + in the price.

This is what I found.

I just finished a 2 hour stretch with the ford parts manuals and have come to the determination that the only difference is as follows.

Ford made 2 different types of mounting brackets for the power steering pumps. from 1960 to 1964 and probably the late 50's also

1. solid single front mount.
2. 2 piece front mount that had a back mount for extra support.
3. 3 piece mount for the AC option with a remote reservoir.

there is no notation that the pumps used are different in any way. even the remote reservoir used the same pump it only had an cap that bolted to the top for the fluid to flow.

There for I had determined that I will buy the rear mount P/S pump and see what happens.

Whats the worst that can happen is I will just have to return it.
