    JigSaw Puzzle

We were in the local Wal-Mart last night and found a 1000 piece puzzle. It is a 50s/60s Drive-In Movie scene with cars pulling up. Front and center... a RED 60 SquareBird. I guess now we have another winter project.

I have tried to find that puzzle on their website also. I searched by puzzle name, artist name and puzzle stock number, but did not find it. I have just written an email to them asking for information regarding its availability. I had tried to call them, but their office is closed on the weekends. I will let you know what they have to say when they reply. In the meantime, those of you in the US might check your local Walmart, as I am going to do later on today.

              JigSaw Puzzle

This is getting to be more of a "puzzle" than I thought it would be! Nowhere on their website could I find that puzzle shown. So off I went to Walmart to find one. I spent about a half hour going through every puzzle they had to no avail. I found several others that Dan Hatala created, but not that one!

It was my intent to buy 2-3 of them so I could tell those of you overseas that I had some. Then it would have been a simple matter of taking care of payment through PayPal, and I could have shipped the puzzle to you. I will have to see what that company says about having them in stock or not. If they do, you can order directly from them. If they don't, then all of us who would like to have one, are out of luck!

Anders is probably right about Squarebirds.org Force!

I will let you know what I find out this coming week.

If it's any help, my wife says that this puzlle was not in the usual puzzle display area. It was in a special display area near the sewing and notions part of the store. In that store, it was also near the automotive department. It cost $7.97. I can't believe they only got shipped to Fort Dodge, Iowa. Next time I'm there. I'll look for more.

Thanks, Jay, for telling me where she found that puzzle at in your store. When I go back, I will look in that area. What gets me is that puzzle does not show up on the company's website. However, I notice that the stock number listed for that puzzle is a higher number than the rest of the puzzles listed under Dan Hatala's name. So it may be that it is a new one and that they have not updated their database on their website yet. I did see several of his other puzzles there though.

Yup, that seems to be a different puzzle, Anders. I think it is also made by a different company. I went through EVERY puzzle they had listed on their website and never found the "Starlite Theatre" puzzle we are looking for. I even went through the Discontinued Puzzles section. No luck there either. I hope to get a reply from the company tomorrow. If not, I will call them and see what they have to say.

                          JigSaw Puzzle

I spoke with a representative of Master Pieces Puzzle Co this morning at length. They no longer have that "Starlite Theatre" puzzle by Dan Hatala, in stock. When they make a puzzle, there is a license concerned regarding the manufacturing of so many boxes of that puzzle. Once that number is reached, production of that puzzle is halted. They have none in stock in their discontinued stock.

I spent most of my morning searching other puzzle companies on the web for someone who would have that puzzle in their inventory still. I found no one that had it. It was put out some time back. I even tried to get in contact with the artist, Dan Hatala, in Waverly, Iowa, to no avail. I was not able to find a website or phone number for him.

There has to be copies of that puzzle out there somewhere. Check your local Walmart, other stores like it, or other arts and craft type stores. If you find any, and there are more than one box, I would like one, and there are probably a few others on here who would also. I will keep looking in my "spare" time!

                            JigSaw Puzzle

I have obtained a partial list of stores that the puzzle company marketed this puzzle to. I have checked the inventories of: Walmart, Kmart, Sears, Michaels, Barnes & Nobles, Waldenbooks, Border books, all to no avail. It is no longer listed in their inventories. They might have some on their shelfs yet, but I have not made it to the stores to check. If some of you are out and about, you might do that. This looks like pretty much of a dead end. It is old stock, that came out several years back. It seems to be no longer available. So the Great Puzzle Caper is fizzling....

I just snagged the only copy of "Starlite Theatre" I could find for sale on eBay or anywhere else, for that matter. At the very end of the sale someone bid on it, after it having sat there for days with no bids. I hope I was not bidding against one of our members! This is an original copy, still sealed in the box. It went for a little more than it probably should have, plus the shipping, but it will be worth having. Now if I can just find a few more copies for our members who want one!
