Does this helps? See post # 10.

The last person that did the brakes on my squarebird could have done an improper job, so pictures are very helpful.Attached FilesComment

Anders, you are the winner on this one... a completely bone stock LH rear brake setup on a '58 Squarebird.
Notice the bottom spring intentionally interrupts the star wheel movement. When the brake tool turns this star wheel, you can hear the spring 'ring' at each cog. Self adjusting springs don't touch the new star wheel. - DaveMember, Sons of the American Revolution

It's clever how they figured to position that spring in such a way so that the star wheel would keep from rotating on its own.Comment

The black spring is the correct replacement spring for drum brakes on squarebirds. The bottom spring is the spring that came with the new kit for 11" drum brakes equipped with self adjusters.
Here's the complete kit. I noticed that there are two sizes of "pins". I'm guessing they include different sizes depending on your specific application.
I also noticed two "U" clips and four washers. I'm guessing those are for front drum brake applications?Comment

The washers and U clip hold the emergency brake to the brake shoe. You can see it in Ander's photos.

I´m glad to be able to help some other for a change
The pic is funny as it also shows one of the + 20 "nests" in clay that I have found all over, and in my car
Never the less, I have pretty good brakes, and they pass inspection every time. They are totally equal as well. This is how the car came a few years back. I have changed shoes after this picture was taken.Comment
