Default Need the Ford Alternator for the C.R.A.P. Bracket

Hi! I have the Alternator Bracket that I bought from C.R.A.P. This bracket configuration does not accept the Chevy Alternator, only the Ford Alternator. I was told that Ford Alternator from 1982 and up will work.

Does anyone know exactly which one, or does any ford Algternator from a V-8 work. I don't need the high output one. Anything 60 amp or over will do just fine.

you want a small 3g like from a mustang. I took my bracket to carquest and we checked the fit. You want the small 3g or it wont fit beside the block.

these can be had very reasonably on e-bay. Order The plug in connector at the same time. The other option is a pick and pull, but I've had good luck with the e-bay units and no core required. Attached are some pics and info from a swap on my sons Galaxie. Mike



Thanks to everyone who helped out with info for my alternator swap. I wanted to post a couple pics, and a summary of what I learned.

There are two basic varieties of G3 alternator: small case and large case. Both have the same backspacing, so you'll want the large case, as there seems to be some agreement that it's a better unit. They're a dime a dozen at any pick-a-part. Mine came off a mid-90's taurus for $17.

The only modifications necessary were cutting a chunk of aluminum off the back with a hack saw (to clear the cylinder head in the upper mounting position), swapping the pulley (make sure to put a washer behind your V-pulley so it clears the housing), and placing one extra washer behind the bottom spacer where the alt bolts to the engine (to increase back clearance).

As for wiring, I used the PA-Performance kit http://www.paperformance.com/scripts...p?idproduct=75) and installed a larger wire to the battery with an in-line fuse.

All in all, it was a pretty straight forward bolt in that cost about 50 bucks total. Car now runs high intensity headlights, 1000-watt stereo, wipers, and blower motor without a noticeable change in the Voltmeter. Excellent.

You can get the Ford alternator on summit, or from Powermaster alternator.

Hey, Guys thanks for all your help & replies on this. I'll get started on buying the alternator. Even though we are in the early stages of winter, the smell of gasoline, and rubber, is coursing through my veins. God, can't wait till spring!!
