My '59 (352 CID) has now begun this REALLY annoying habit, even when warmed up. If I don't nurse it along caaaaaarefully when I begin to pull away from a stop, feathering the accelerator, the engine stalls. :'(
Is this a carb. thang (it WAS just recently tuned up) or a transmission (Cruise-o-matic) issue? It's also VERY slow to engage a forced downshift, often refusing altogether.

HI There,
With regards to the stalling, you did not mention if you still run the original(AUTOMATIC CHOKE) or manual choke?. Reason for this i would say not no matter how much Carb tunning you do if you have a warn Auto choke coil, it will not fully retract the choke plate in your carb, causing to much fuel and not enought air = stalling.

Or the carb has been tuned way to far back so not enough fuel is gettin this hunk of metal moving. Also check your advance on the dizzy and engine timing as this may be the cause of wrong timming for down changes in your Autobox(gearbox).

Do you have the petrinox electronic ignition? if not go get it, with some new plugs may be some new HT leads and do a full engine tune up.
You may be surprised at what your car runs like after that is done!.
Also you did not say if the carb has been overhauled or you have the correct factory carb fitted as settings will vary from the tbird manual to a aftermarket carb...hope this helps you.

Hey,
Sounds like the accelerator pump is not working.Start your bird
for a minute or two and then shut it off...take the air cleaner off
and move the throtle linkage while looking into the carb.Gas should
should squirt out onto the venturis.If you don`t see gas squirt out
then you need to get a new accelerator pump which is basicly a
rubber piece that is on the front of your carb.If you do see two
little jets of gas squirt out then you might have a vacuum leak
or something like that which would also account for a shifting
problem.
