Default Scotts Daughters 1962 Bulletbird!

Scott ~ ss396t6 has been posting in the BulletBird Forum regarding the 1962 Bulletbird that his daughter has bought. Here is what he has had to say about it and some pix of it.

"My daughter said it was a dark maroon metallic with a cream interior. All power, no AC. Lots of maintenance and repair records plus original owner's manual. Her mechanic got it started and she said she was amazed how quietly it ran. I am ordering new tires, fuel tank, sending unit, brake booster, etc. The engine and transmission were rebuilt in the late '90s and parked in 2007 for ten years. The engine bay needs cleaned up a lot and the carb is being rebuilt."

The color seems to be X 1470 Maroon Metallic, Sales Name Heritage Burgundy (also a Lincoln color) with a cream interior.

Here are some pix of it.

Default 1962 photos

Ray Clark posted photos of the car somewhere on this site. Are the soft tops difficult to install? The top appears to be in driver quality shape but the plastic window has yellowed.

I have a 63 Sport Roadster and one of the best things to have on hand is the Convertible Top Manual. Buy it, Download it or whatever, but read it several times, make the jumpers, label the relays and switches to get familiar with everything. The system is overwhelming at first, but only one thing happens at a time. Whether you work on it yourself or have a mechanic do the work, the manuals are absolutely essential. The lack of use is a big source of trouble on a convertible but a bigger one is having someone trying to fix something without directions.

Should your hyd system need restoration, use ATF or quality hyd fluid. I think ATF was started to be used in 62, but some older cars used brake fluid which has absorbed water and caused corrosion over the years.

Ask questions, but the best help is in the manual

Nice car and enjoy! J

I agree with Joe. You can download all the 1962 Manuals for free here:

Default 1962 tires

Scott, I decided to move everything up into the Bulletbird Forum and combine it. So now you will find your original posts, plus the pix you sent and other comments all up here. John ~ jopizz just gave you links to the free manuals to download! The electrical schematics can also be found in the Technical Resource Library under Wiring Diagrams, as I recall..

WOW

That's in terrific shape.

Of course, more free advice: Aerospace 303 on the top after a Ph neutral scrub. The yellowing plastic may come off with a polishing compound but easily replaced at upholstery shop.

The 303 has kept a previous convertible top and curtains looking new for 15 years. This top never saw a garage or protection from the elements. The thread and zipper cloth gave up first but Tenara thread is nearly indestructable if re-sewing.

Can't say it enough. 303. Great for your new sidewalls, too.

That car looks great !

Default Fuel tank

Who would have a correct fuel tank and sending unit that is a direct fit without retrofitting? Seems there's as many on eBay as there are sellers with a wide range of prices. I will need straps, hooks, etc.

Thanks!
