You lucky stiff... you found a '59 Ranchero in decent shape!! I've been looking forever. I had a '59 wagon in the '80s, wish I never sold it. I love the '59 Ford styling. Congrats.Comment

Sorry mine isn't a Thunderbird, but this was Henry's idea of a 'family car' back in '59:

I love your Ranchero, and the deal you got. If you need any help or advice on restoring her, don't hesitate to ask. I have done lots to upgrade my Galaxie to the 20th century, and make it roadworthy for long trips.
The very first things I changed were the wipers to electric motor, the fan to electric, and the brakes to power disk.
I bought a new dual master cylinderer/two-stage 7" booster combination, and re-piped the entire car. I bought the bracket on eBay, that uses the original spindles and a Mustang rotor, with GM S-10 calipers and pads. Man! These brakes are fantastic, and will easilly put you through the windshield. I had to use 15" wheels to clear the calipers, that's why the Cragar SS with radial tires.
It's a standard 292 2-bbl Y-Block. I'm going to drop-in another 292 next week. I bought it last Jan., tore it down, had it bored +.060", new pistons, lots of head work including new exh valve seats, viton seals, and new springs, true roller chain, and lots of 'engine fixes'. Y-Blocks were not oiled very well in two areas; the rocker arms/shafts, and the timing chain set. They are now...
Pictures say it better, click on this sentence for my site.
I have new sway bars, carpet, radio, and other goodies going in before Oct. 17 (my niece wants me to drive her and the groom around Chicago for their wedding, then).
Keep us posted on your Ranchero, and take LOTS of pictures for us. (I love that car) - Dave DareMember, Sons of the American Revolution

Hi Jon!
That is a beautifully done Galaxie 500! Very pretty and I am sure your Dad is proud of it!

It's almost all original Ray. That is the original "Diamond Luster" Ford paint (ex. for the entire rt. front fender)!
This is the classy Ford that "bit" me back in 1988 & got me started looking for a '50's Thunderbird.

I love this shot of your '59 Galaxie Town Sedan, so classy.
Your mirrors are EXACTLY where they need to be; not in the
way of your wing, or while working under the hood.

Thanks for the kind words guys. Like I told Ray, this is the car that started it all for me. I even wanted a Raven Black '59 T-Bird to match this car (like Mike Lemmon's), & my father helped me search high & low for one for a few years. Then the 1-owner loaded out 1960 Bird surfaced, I couldn't pass it up.
On a side note, this is my father's 1959 Ford Galaxie- not mine........
YET.
