    1962 thunderbird with 390/manual trans

I was told I stumbled across a rare bird. It is a 1962 with the 390 two barrel with a manual trans. No power seat, no power windows, no power steering, so I would guess it was a base model. I was told it was worth more then I think, I was going to turn the car into a race car, and sell the parts I didn't need. Is there something im over looking with this car or is it just a base model??

A two barrel carburetor and manual transmission were not a factory option. Nor was manual steering. I'd be interested in seeing the data plate if you can take a picture and email it to me. Is the shifter on the column?

2Y83Z174416 is the vin ID I decoded that but that didn't tell me a lot. But it does have power steering put that in the original message by accident. But the shifter is on the column (three on the tree)

All the numbers indicate a standard hardtop with 390 4V and auto trans. I would say it's most likely someone's modification probably using a Galaxie steering column. There should be a part number prefix on the intake in front of the carb which tells the year of the intake.

Thanks, I was looking at he code, and have to check might not be original engine or they switched the intake at some point in the last 50 years suppose to be a 4 barrel. So the galaxie column fit in the thunderbird with out any mods? Is there way to tell the diff between the to columns?
          Thanks

If you could post a picture of the steering column that would be great. I'd be interested to see it. Most of the manual columns from 60-64 are similar. As far as how difficult it is I'm not sure. There should be a part number on the power steering gear box to tell if they reused the Thunderbird gear or used a full size Ford gear in it's place.

Kyle, I checked the Thunderbird Registry for you and found that VIN# for your Tbird is not registered in the Registry. John Rotella has been recording the information on all Tbirds we can locate and putting them into the registry. If you would like to register your Bulletbird, go to his website and enter the information on the Date Plate and other information regarding it.
