Does anybody know about the little plastic piece on the linkage to the carb from the gas pedal? Mine is chipped and seems to work when it wants to. Is this part of the kick down? Part number or where can i find a new one?

RE: Kick down piece
Its kind of hard to make out the numbers (not your fault) but i think its 9A856 next to 78158? It should be the only plastic piece on the entire linkage, ive noticed when it locks into place with eye of the piece thats holding the linkage bar that the engine idles differently (high to low depending on if the plastic piece finds itself in the eye or not)

RE: Kick down piece
That piece is called: bushing - accelerator shaft to bellcrank rod. Part number C1SS 9A856-A. I did not see it listed in any of the Thunderbird catalogs I had, but it should not be too hard to find since it fits 1961 to 1966 Thunderbirds and a variety of Fords from 1962 to 1964 with 6 and 8 cylinder engines. Call some of the vendors on the links page of the main Squarebirds site. Someone must have it.

RE: Kick down piece
It is there to reduce friction in that joint. When you press on the accelerator pedal, the accelerator rod moves the pivot that connects to the bellcrank rod which connects to your transmission. Therefore the transmission is signalled that you have stepped on the accelerator, so it shifts down.
