When lowering my top in the final cycle which brings the trunk lid down, there was a loud crash is the trunk lid fell last foot. It appears that both trunk lid hinges failed. The hinges shared off where the amount of the base of the trunk. In trying to reconstruct what happened, it appears that one hinge failed causing the trunk lid to skew sideways thereby putting lateral pressure on the other hinge causing it to fail. I'm advised by the Birds Nest people that the hinges were peculiar to 1960 and that there are very few available. Has anyone incurred this problem and know where I can locate a pair of used hinges?

Carl Heller ~ partsetal on here has many Squarebirds parts available. Send Carl a Private Message and ask if he has a set of the '60 hinges or knows where they can be found at.

Normally the pins shear off due to rust and fatigue. The hinges can be drilled out and new pins installed. If the counter weight hinges broke in the trunk that's another story. Can you post a picture so we can see exactly what happened.

Not to hijack the thread but how exactly does a paid member post directly on the site. Is there a step by step instruction anywhere?Comment

Below the block where you put your response you will see "Manage Attachments". When you hit that button a screen will appear with blocks that say "Browse". When you hit browse a file upload screen will appear that is on your computer. You want to point that to the directory that has the attachment(s) that you want to add. Your attachments must be formatted 800x600 and 143k or less in size. When you are finished adding attachments hit 'Upload". That will send the attachments to the Squarebirds server. Once that's done your attachments are in your post. You can hit preview to see them before they are posted.

Paid Membership Advantages
I would add this to what John said. There are certain Forum advantages that Alexander set up for those who assist in maintaining our Forum, and paying the bills. These are outlined in this thread in the Administrative section of this Forum, for those of you who have not checked it.

I would also point out that there are parts of this Forum that our general unpaid membership never sees. They are open ONLY to our Paid Membership, as a courtesy for their financial support of their Forum....
If anyone has questions regarding the above, email or PM me. Now, lets get this back on subject...Last edited by YellowRose; July 21, 2017, 09:32 PM.

I have a set available from a 60 parts car. However they should be re-pinned. On both hinges, they appear to have seized on one side of the hinge, causing the pin to break in half since the other side of the hinge was free.
Contact Carl and if he is not able to help you with a good set, then consider my offer.Ken

Just a suggestion about posting pictures?
I have been on many forums for many years. They are all full of kittens and other things because ANY hosting service you use is pure crap! They will all crash and burn eventually because the people who make that type of stuff just move on to the next hottest thing and abandon it all.
Please post ALL your pictures directly to the forum. Then all those pictures will last as long as the forum does.
