How to replace the shifter lever & detent plate on my 63 T-bird

New member! The shifter on my 63 T-bird will not stay in park. I have bought a new shifter lever, shifter collar, and detent plate. My question is, is it necessary to remove the whole steering column in order to replace these parts? And where can I find the directions to perform this?

    Thank you in advance!

Tom, if you will take a look at the Technical Resource Library (TRL), you will find information on the Bulletbird for doing this. Hopefully, the information there is what you are looking for that will help you. The link to the TRL is always part of my signature element and also that of John Pizzi ~ jopizz. There is a Forum on the Technical Resource Library also, but the fast way to get there is to look at any post that he or I have made and click on the link. Once in the TRL do a Ctrl F (for Find) and type in Detent Plate. It will take you right to it. I hope the information is what you need. If not, let us know and we can assist you further. Here is that TRL link I was telling you about.

Hi Tom, I am glad you were able to find the information you needed. Thanks to so many of our terrific Forum users, we have been able to put together a pretty good Technical Resource Library. I am aware that much of it has to do with Squarebirds, but there are so many subjects that also apply to other years of Tbirds also. We will keep adding to it as our people keep bringing information to my attention that they think should be in the TRL.
