It could be a few different problems. It could be as simple as a broken horn ring causing the horn ring to make contact with the switch. It could also be a misadjusted steering column causing the switch to be too close to the horn ring. This is an easy adjustment by loosening the two phillips head screws under the steering column and moving the column down slightly. It could also be a defective relay that is stuck closed. If you are handy with an ohmmeter you can test it. There are other possibilities but I would start there first.

Take lots of pictures before you tear into it, more along the way, and more yet after you're done assembling.

A general question to all squarebirds owners: Does my horn work in the right way? In order to get it work, I need to push on the left side of the horn ring or pull on the right side.Comment

It should sound whenever any part is pushed.Member, Sons of the American Revolution

Horn and heating
So I was driving the 60 bird in the county fair parade this weekend. Love my loud horn and used it. As the engine got hotter ( slow going) the horn got quieter until it went silent. It was fine again once the engine cooled down. Am I right in thinking a wire must be touching something? Anyone have this issue?Debbie #38435Comment

It sounds like your generator wasn't charging fast enough, especially if you were going slow. One of the down sides of not having an alternator.

Horn
Ok, thanks on that. I was worried I might have a burning wire somewhere. Guess I need to go easy on the horn! Lol. I have never honked it that many times I guess in a slow parade pace. Had the same problem that night during the cruise which was even slower.Debbie #38435Comment
