        Welcome, tara !!

Hi Tara! Glad to have you on the Forum. That is my '59 Tbird you saw the picture of. It sounds like your Tbird paint is Yosemite Yellow. Mine in '59 was called Casino Cream and I did not like that color, so I had it painted Tweety Bird Yellow and white. Your Data Plate will tell you a lot about your Tbird. If you know what the VIN # is, and the Data Plate information, let me know what it is and I can tell you more about your Tbird.

I am sorry to hear that you found a shop to work on your Tbird who, apparently, did not know what they were doing. I see that Ford is making it right for you. We have the greatest Tbird Techies from around the planet on here and they will be glad to advise and help you as you need it. If you have any pictures of your Tbird, we would love to see them. I have given you the information on how to go about posting pictures. It is your option, and there are three ways to do it. So lets see what your Tbird looks like! Let us know if you need help. If you do, post up in the 1958-1960 Squarebirds Forum.

          Cracked bolt holds servo

Thanks for calming my nerves to find out about the broke servo bolt was refreshing but not for sure due to I'm not mechanic and don't have free access to one so my cars in garage hands which could go through roof rite now and daily seems to be collecting more lists of parts my car needs to function what gets me is these cars are more solid than modern ones but the warranty on work is 12 mo. Or 12000 miles that's not fair cause we all know unless they messed it up it couldn't fail that quick unless done wrong like the 1st shop said nothing wrong and got in car and put on gas and the bar disconnected from gas peddle so I had to keep brake on all the way to get my kids from school the looks I got at the lights was funny the AAA+ guy laughed but to know they didn't put the bar on the correct side of the CARBURATOR really woke me up. CUSTOM SHOP MEANS NOTHING.

            Welcome, tara !!

Woww! You really have had a bit of a problem with that shop. I will look at our database and see if I can find someone in your city who owns a Tbird that might know some good shops to take it to that you can trust. I will let you know what I find. In West Florida, in Homosassa, there is a Tbird Club that might be able to advise you. I can put you in contact with the club president if you like.

              Power steering

I wouldn't mind any comments on stuff I've had repaired including but not limited to a good cheap mechanic. My power steering had to be rebuilt all I could think is why doesn't the list include a detent plate cause my shifter is sloppy and from what I've read it's in need of it. I'm still hoping my mechanic brother will get rid of his attitude problem and start working on my car cause he could be making a full time job outa my car rite now. Actually not that's rite he would of been done in 3 wks to month and whole car would of been overhauled with extras that I didn't even ask for done just cause he wanted to. That's the difference between a mechanic that loves working on cars and a garage that charges you money.

                Welcome, tara !!

I just looked at the database and we are not showing any member in your city. But we have a lot of members in Florida. I will see if I can find someone close to your location. Yes, since you have a brother who is a mechanic, it would be great if he could help you get things taken care of.

As for the detent plate, that could cause sloppy shifting, but there are other things also. The detent plate can be ordered from us on the Home Page. The Neutral Switch down towards the bottom of the steering shaft where it meets the paneling, might need adjusted. After 50+ years, the bushings in the shift lever, and the lever itself can get worn. I replaced the "cup" that the shift lever fits into, the shift lever and the detent plate in mine and it helped. It could also be a worn ring down at the bottom of the steering wheel. That ring, after 50+ years can get worn. It is the one that the rod going to the transmission attaches to at the bottom of the steering wheel. At the bottom of the steering wheel shaft in the engine bay you will see a lever sticking out of that shaft. It is what the shifter rod connects to from the transmission. I will post a picture so you can see how they can get worn and cause sloppy shifting too. I had a problem with mine. You can see the wear on mine. You can get replacements for them from any of the Tbird parts houses.

Lets do any further posting up in the 1958-1960 Squarebirds Forum, up in the Technical section so the guys can see what problems you have been having and what you need help with.

                  Thanks any help is good

Thanks a lot that's just a little of what's been done and still with every gasket change I've found out fuel pump bad heater core not there for heater alternator bad
Horn ring was attached at first shop they broke it off steering wheel it was dangling when I picked it up I had to get the wiring capped off due to it was shocking me every time I touched it but it really got worse when I replaced my battery the only reason I tried it was to make sure it didn't catch on fire till I got it to garage anyways no one has the ring so far as I've looked with tbird connection parts but ill find one eventually. I'd say I might if I'm lucky be back in my car in another 2 months its been in there 3 months I'm wondering why this is second garage and 1st garage had car for 1 1/2 months.
