Having Heck w/ pwr strg. pump

WOW!!! Me and my dad fought the power steering pump on my '60 430cid Bird last night. We installed it & pulled it off 3 times.....And it is still crooked!! I kept everything together when we took her apart last month. How many factory spacers are there on a 430cid Bird anyways? Here is a bad pic of mine. There is 1 factory looking spacer in the top right of this pic, this bolt also has 2 washers on it. There are also 4 washers on the left bolt...

Hopefully, someone here can supply a MPC Ill of the installation. This is a belt driven pump, correct?

      Jon:

I can't see anything from the top on mine because of the AC bracket and compressor.

I'll try to jack it up and see if I can get a look from the bottom.

          I just checked from underneath.

My PS pump is different than yours. The flanges on my PS pump are flush where it mounts to the bracket, and do not need any spacers or washers between them.

Someone else maybe can check theirs?

Are you sure you have the correct year pump? It should have the reservoir attached. Later BIRDS had a remote reservoir (AC).

There should also be three mounting brackets.

Were there any I.D. Nos. stamped on the pump?

I'll have to check this weekend for a casting/PN#. I do remember seeing "EATON" stamped on the backside of it last night, it ran vertically....

I can't take one from the top because the AC compressor, belt, and fan make it impossible to get the camera in there.

I can take one from the bottom that would show the same thing. I need to get it into the driveway, and jack it up -- but it's raining right now.

I'll try it when it lets up -- hopefully before it gets dark.

                    Jon:

Here are two photos from the bottom. My pump is held by two nuts -- one is stationary, and one for the adjustment.

I couldn't see any numbers from the bottom -- so I can't tell much for now except that it fits the bracket and works.

                    Hope this helps.

How do you plan to add fluid?

I have an EDSEL owner on another board that is replacing his pump. He will take photos but it may be a few days.

I have a stock reservoir on the pump & I have that same mounting bracket u posted "Kultulz". I plan to add fluid via the cap. Thanks for that pic by the way.

Thanks for the pics as well Bart, my pump is wrong. The bracket, pulley, and reservoir all loook right, but my Eaton pump's actual casting is different....

Here are a few more pics:

You might need to fill that space so that you have 3 points against the bracket -- just a thought.
