Just did the SCAREBIRd disc brake kit

I just finished adding scarebird disc brakes to my 59 Ranchero, all went well till I had to heat up the spacer in the kitchen oven, wife was mad over that... other wise It took 2 hours and a trip to the hardware store for some bolts.

The 14" rims rib so going to get a spacer tomorrow and see if that will work.

Hi Dennis, That is great! Glad to hear you got the disc brakes on. Simplyconnected has told Howard and I that we don't have to heat up the spacers to put them on. When he did his disc brake conversions on his Big Fords, he used a length of pipe that slid over the spindles, up against the spacer. Then he pounded the end of the pipe with a hammer and each slid right in place. It sounds like things went pretty well for you. I am about a week away or so from having my disc brake and dual mc/dual power booster conversion going.

I was going to look at the pix you posted on the Ranchero Forum, but I am not a member. Guess I could sign up to see them. They might good for me to see, though I am not going to do the work. I am going to be taking notes and pictures of each step a long the way as the procedure is done so they can be shared with the members.

Sounds like you are happy with your new disk brakes. How well do they work? Did you install a combination proportioning valve? Are you using a power assist booster?

It's true, I never heated my spacers. Just pounded them home with a pipe. They never left a mark.

In 1984 I baked some parts in the oven to bake KalGard gun coating into them, per instructions on the can. Somehow my wife found out, despite not being there, and despite my sauteing onions and using fans.

To this day, if I am home alone and she returns, she often walks in and asks " so...what have you had in my oven while I was gone?"

Learning from this, I helped a friend recently acquire his own used kitchen range for the garage, and helped with the 220 circuit so he could do his own work in peace...
