Throttle linkage ideas.

Guys, I am looking for an alternative to the factory throttle linkage on my 58.

If any of ya'll have changed your linkage/pedal arrangement I'd be very happy to see what you did.

Looks like another cable type but not very clear.


Not sure how that one little bracket off the carb stud would hold up. Maybe if it bent 90 deg at the bottom and back to the OEM throttle linkage hole on the manifold but then again I bet you don't have the OEM manifold either. Think that's a Lokar system.

I have a cable-type gas pedal from Lokar in my car. If you go this route, be sure to mount it low enough towards the floorpan so it doesn't "bottom out" on the vertical firewall and thus restrict the full opening of your carburetor's butterfly valves.

Yeah, I've settled on going with a Lokar through floor mount pedal, and cable.

A bird with a blower.... you need to post up some photos of the hood opening once you have it in place.

X2 on the hood opening.

Looks like it will come through and delete the signature Thunderbird hood scoop.

Would be cool (but a lot of work) to re-create the scoop in the top of the blower - but then again - with that blower - who needs a scoop.

Yeah, I'm thinking it will be a challenge to do.

Took a better photo this weekend. Made a new set of wires, installed the tall covers and fired her up.

Well, here is the final product, almost, but we did drive her around the neighborhood.

And yeah, I'm 100% sure the hood scoop will be gone, I've decided to cut up the hood from the 60, it has rust on the inside so I won't be destroying a really nice hood.

I ended up with a new gas pedal and cable

I ended up removing all the factory linkage and pedal. Had to cut some new holes in the very bottom of the firewall for the new pedal.

But at least now I have a pedal and linakge that doesn't give me grief with play. What I don't have tho is a kickdown on the transmission. But we are pulling the COM out and installing a C6 soon as I get the C6 beefed up.

It's the process that is fun right?

Couple of months back when my 10 year old tires went bad a buddy of mine suggested it was time to go with some Torq thrusts and blackwalls.

I gave it some thought but told him that the Squarebird just didn't do "hot rod" as well as sticking with the whitewalls for the "personal luxury" look.

I stand corrected. That looks awesome.

(and wish I had looked into the torq thrusts a little further)

Of course - then I might have wanted a blower - - so maybe I went the best route for my car after all.
