    glove box and instrument panel

at in point in 58 to 60 were this a flat silver with chrome outer ring, or were they solid chrome? Meaning if I have a guy that wants to sell me both and the center is a matte silver, it is "custom" paint?

On a 60 they are more or less solid chrome, with the grooves in between the raised shiny strips being a matte finish.

The center where the ribs are should be a matte finish and just the outer chrome shiny.

Did the Matte finish carry over onto the radio bezel and the a/c outlets?

I'm pretty sure that the ribbed portion of the radio bezel and the ribs around the A/C outlet had a matte finish.

This appears to be an original radio bezel and A/C outlet.

awesome thanks guys. I'll buy both for $300 as they are pristine. I was confused as mine is mostly chrome. I like the matte finish better as it is cleaner.... but now my ac radio don't match. LOL

                  seems like chrome

As I'm just re-installing the radio after a Gary Tayman FMR-1 conversion I hit the radio bezel with 0000 steel wool and it is chrome for sure. I tried the steel wool on a couple of small inconspicuous spots on the glove box door and instrument panel and it appears they would polish up nice as well. It doesn't seem like I've rubbed off paint... more like just oxidation or ??

The ribbed parts were definitely painted to tone down the chrome. Most likely to cut down on the glare. You can certainly leave them shiny if that's your preference. I prefer to make them look factory and cover them with some flat clear.

As reference - my dash is original - never been out of the car and is finished as John describes.

Some nut did take the steering wheel off to replace the detent plate and didn't do a very good job lining it up when he put it back on....ooops....guess that was me but I fixed it!

It must handle pretty good if you can go 70mph and take a picture at the same time.

One of these days I'll have to take a pic at top speed like in my MGA....

                            Eric:
Looking at your last picture, it's nice to see the door panel line up with the metal cover plate and also line up so nicely with the front kick panel. Sure wish the new ones were like that. Carl H. and myself are taking our panels apart to get them to look like yours. Jealous.
I also like John's catch on the speedo showing 70 when the pic was taken.
