A Highly Customized '59 Gold Tbird.....

Chris ~ bird 60 sent me a link to a very highly customized Gold 1959 Squarebird that was, at one time, for sale through an Indiana company called Significant Cars. The owner of this Tbird had spent around $100K in customization and modernization to this Tbird, doing many things I have never seen done to a Squarebird before. It has won a good number of awards, and been featured in a number of automobile magazines. This is the first time I have ever seen it though. Shawn Miller, the owner of Significant Cars, has given me permission to post the link for all to enjoy. I will also post the link to the only other Tbird I could find on their website that they had for sale. That is a gorgeous '59 Red Convertible. I know that they no longer have the Gold '59, as it did not sell. The owner was asking $69,500 for it and, I gather, eventually took it back home when it did not sell through them. Shawn said that they get Tbirds from time to time, and that he personally owns a 1966 Q Code Convertible.

The gold one is nice but the inner end of the tail-lights should be rounded of in my opinion. And that finned alloy panel on the dash looks decidedly amateurish...

Although highly customized in thought ( using door spears as taillight accents )and gold exterior paint what is up with using red in the engine bay

My thoughts exactly. I thought the idea of using the chrome door spears as tail lights was pretty neat. As for the red engine, if I had been doing the design work, I wudda had the engine painted gold to match the exterior color. As for that long, sweeping center console.... I think I would have added drink holders to it, and maybe, because it is so long, a catchall container built into it, with a flip up door to open it. It cudda been put to better use, IMHO.. But over all, I think it is a pretty cool looking custom... Except for those areas...

Let's be honest, it's always easy to add or deduct from someone else s ideas. I tip my hat to the guys that came up with the original idea of the Squarebird, & other magnificent looking Classics over the years. So little few cars left nothing to be changed, as they looked superb from factory. Having said all that, the Squarebird was born with a Beautiful figure but just needed a bit of dressing up. (my thoughts of course).

The gold one bores me, honestly. It's standard showcar fare. Get rid of all the chrome, dip the body in a pool of paint, make everything smooth and formless... it's just dull. It's like they try to turn classic cars into modern cars by making them completely monochrome and getting rid of anything that might blow off in a wind tunnel. Yes, I realize it takes quite a bit of work to do that. But just because you spent hours and hours polishing a turd to a mirror finish doesn't mean you accomplished something worthwhile.
