you may want to check the voltage at the lights while it is running. You may have some decent volt drop to the light causing them to be dull. In which case it doesn't matter how good the headlight is, with low voltage it will through poor light

I am installing a set of housings with led bulbs from eBay. They are extremely bright when I bench tested them. It will be a few months or so before I can try them on the road.

ya i would be interested to know how the led work as well. Can you run those with the oem generator or does it require an alternator?

LED headlight kits for all US and international vehicles with 7 inch and 5.75 inch Round Headlights. See specific specs to ensure a perfect fit.

Found these last weekend. I have not made a purchase yet, but they have the correct "look" for older cars.

Hi Greg, that was interesting, but, unfortunately, they do not list anything for 1955-1966 Tbirds. But they do say that if you do not find your car on the list to contact them...

I did contact them, and the 5.75" units would fit our cars

Great,Greg! I will contact them tomorrow and see if they have any objection to me listing them as an advertiser in our Advertisements Forum, and citing that size number. That is great to know!

These are too rich for my blood.
I will stick with the Hеlla H4 halogen system for $26/each. That's still over a hundred bucks for 4. Bulbs are only two bucks each.

I would suggest prior to changing headlights that you get a voltmeter in the car (like a unit that plugs into the lighter) and see how your charging system is performing.

If it is underperforming (low voltage), adjust the regulator and get things where they ought to be.

Then see how unhappy you are with the stock incandescent lights.

Last Fall, thanks to information on this site, I adjusted my voltage regulator and bumped things up a little over 1 volt. This helped the headlights noticeably.

It might be that you still find you want to go aftermarket but either way things will be working as intended.

In my case I was slightly under 12.0 volts with the high beams on at road speed, not very good. Now I am around 13 volts and like them much more.

That said, the halogen conversion is still attractive . . .

I recall an article from the 70s when they had just come out (a single light for a motorcycle was over $50) and the author prefaced it with "God said 'Let there be light' and there was ... and it was good and He called it Quartz Halogen"

                        Added Relays

I Bought The H4 Conversion Headlights, But They Wont Fit Unless I Modify The Bucket. So I Purchesed Relays From Dave Dare And Installed Them In The 60 Bird. It Is An Improvement. Voltage Drops From 13 To 12.5 On High At High Idle And The Lights Seem Whiter. These Are Halogen Sealed Beams.. Very Simple $15.00 Upgrade. Pics Are Hi No Relay, Hi With Relay, Lo No Relay And Lo With Relay...kenn
