I couldnt wait to put the points and condensor on. I primed her and she popped off. Backfired a bit, and died. I'm going to replace plugs and wires before I run her again. I'm not even sure theres fuel in the car. ( I hope not) Thanks a ton for advice!!! I did notice the yellow wire smoking after cranking a bit at the selinoid.
If it's been sitting for 10 years I'm sure the gas tank is loaded with rust and varnish from the old gas. I wouldn't bother putting gas in it. All you will do is foul up your carburetor. You can try cleaning out your old tank but it's probably too far gone. A new tank is the best investment you can make.
... I have no real knowledge of this, just the basics...
Really, that's all you need. Most importantly, follow the electrical diagram. It's just like a road map, showing wire colors and switch terminal letters. If you follow it correctly, your car will run.
I agree with John. Drop your tank and replace it for $200. If your gas line has no filter, add one.
The rubber gas line from your frame to the fuel pump is notorious for leaking. If it's hard and cracked, replace it.
I'll look inside with a scope before buying another tank. I bet this one has been replaced. Its in too good of shape.
Would the lack of fuel cause her to backfire out the carb? Or do I need to move the points a bit one way or the other? On the t-bird I'll try to put some pics of both up here soon.
Backfire is most likely due to lack of fuel, clogged carburetor or choke not closed enough. I would put a long rubber hose on the fuel pump and feed gas from a gas can rather than the gas tank right now. After your carburetor is filled pump it while looking down the bore and see if gas is shooting out strong or just dribbling out. The passages may be clogged.

I would try advancing the timing if it's backfiring through the carb.
