    Yellow Rose's Paint Job

Cathie, I thought about doing the top like this, only trimmed in yellow paint.. But I changed my mind... This is NOT the paint design that Rose will have..

That car is coming together good! I would love my chrome parts to be like that ( drewl...)
I would go for the Watson-graphic if I was go for a tu-tone paint, but in the end, what´s make Ray happy is right for Ray

How about a white top with portholes ????

I'm not a big fan of the "Watson" look. An option I have seen is heavy vinyl that can be put on like window film. Guy did his whole car from blue to flat black but can't find that link. Here are some others though.

Ferrari F430 Spider goes under the knife – Click above to watch the video It can't really be that simple, can it? Well, it seldom is. But expert

Avalilable in many colors so maybe you could create a temporary look to see how you like it if you could find a yellow vinyl to match. It would have sharp edges though not a fade look unless you clear covered the top then had the shop spray it - no likie - peel it back off to the plain white.

Too bad it's not going to be ready for the Memorial Day parade but my guess is every time you drive that thing it's going to be like a parade - everybody will notice.

Fun to keep up with the project -

          Thanks,

            Yellow Rose's Paint Job

Yesterday, I went to see how they were doing with painting the top. They had it painted white with pearlescent paint. I do not know how many coats that was because I was so impressed with the look that I forgot to ask. How is how she looks now..

Ray, The car sure looks great, really wish you lived closer to Michigan! We could have fun at the 55 year T-Bird anniversary party in Dearborn. It would be Yellow Bird and Gold Bird side by side!

This event is not sponsored by Ford, but three Thunderbird clubs. Here is the event site:

thanks for the link dave, it does say that your car has to be pre-registered to enter the show but i'm still wondering if the show on saturday is open to the public or just to those who have brought their cars.... couldn't really tell by the info on the site. i would love to drive up with my dad and check out all the birds on that saturday.

I am sure that the public is welcome to view the cars, very few shows charge a fee to get in anymore just to see them, or at least they should not! My Dad and I are staying at the Ritz hotel which should be where most of the cars will be staying. The Saturday show is at Ford World HQ, should be about 300 cars there. Look for our Gold Bird car when you come, Dad and I will be wearing our white Squarebird golf shirts!

                        Hi Tom,

Yes, it would be great if we could both show our cars together! A Yellow Bird and a Gold Bird. Birds of a feather flock together!

One of our new users reported to me that his anti-virus software detected a java script virus on my PaintJob web page. I ran a complete and thorough anti-virus scan after making sure my anti-virus software (Panda) was completely up to date. Nothing was detected. Has anyone else who has looked at that web page, or the other ones, Interior, TrunkWork, FrontEndRepairs, run into a virus alert regarding them? If so, please let me know.

                                Yellow Rose's Paint Job

Someone asked me how JD's paint guys prepared the engine well for painting with the engine in, because he wants to do his engine well with the engine in. Here is what JD told me.

They took everything off the fender wells and off the firewall, except the AC plenum which they taped off. They used bungee cords to keep things off the fender wells. They cleaned off the areas they were going to paint very well before they started. They used Scotchbrite red scouring pads, for rough scouring and grey ones for fine scouring. They degreased the whole area to be painted. When they were satisfied that the areas were clean and ready for painting they then covered over the engine and everything else that they did not want to paint yellow and sealed it all off. It looks like it worked. Carl ~ partsetal, has a very good explanation of all this in the link below. He tells you how to do it.

                                http://www.squarebirds.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=8533&page=4

I went by today to see how things were going. They had the car all sealed up and the white painting done. They were waiting for the yellow pearlescent paint to come in. It, apparently, got hung up in the Memorial Day holiday. They hoped to have it this evening and start painting the yellow exterior tomorrow.

I want to add to this that I might not have written everything that JD's paint team did to the engine well before they painted it. I was hard pressed to remember all that he said they did. I think it was much in line though with what Carl said that he did in the link above. I just went over Carl's comments and they are pretty much the same as what JD told me, as I best remember it. So it sounds like his paint team did pretty much the same as Carl did.
